With each passing episode of Demon Slayer, our love for the main protagonists is only increasing. We get to see so many sides of them. We laugh, we feel all tingly no matter what they do. But what about characters like Genya? Do we know anything about him, the way we know everything about Tanjiro, or say any other character? Have we ever paid much attention to his situation? This article will be dedicated to Genya Shinazugawa, and if he will stay with us until the end!
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba has been grossing ever since its first season release. The manga-based anime written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotōge; has been serialized in the Weekly Shōnen Jump. Kimetsu no Yaiba is all about bloodstained swords. A kind-hearted boy, Tanjiro Kamado, whose life turned upside down when his family got murdered by human-eating demons. Set in the Taisho era in Japan, Tanjiro sets off to turn back his younger sister, Nezuko, who is the sole survivor of the killing and is also a half-demon. All KNY fans worry a lot whenever Tanjiro gets hurt or when he struggles. But little do we know about Genya; even if he does get hurt, no fan would react in the same way as they would with Tanjiro. Till the time you scroll down, I bet any fans wouldn’t be able but to love Genya until then. Let’s start then.

Who is Genya Shinazugawa?
Genya Shinazugawa is Wind Hashira: Sanemi Shinazugawa’s younger brother. He is a major supporting role in Demon Slayer. He first appeared in Demon Slayer season 1, episode 4, “Final Selection”, where he appeared as a short, angry young man. He could be seen with a scar on one of his eyes, running just above his nose.
Genya appeared again in the last episode in KNY’s season 1. “He got such an amazing build in such a short time,” is what Tanjiro commented when Genya bumped into him, even though Tanjiro got out of his way. Off he goes with being ruder. He may look scary and all, but trust me, in the end, it’s inevitable that anyone can resist but love him. Well, we are yet to see him more, so again, let’s not jump to conclusions, shall we?

Genya’s Abilities
Genya could transform into a demon if he eats anything related to demons. In the manga, chapter 171, it was seen that Genya had consumed Upper Moon 1, Kokushibo’s lock of hair. Even with some strands of hair, of a demon’s, he could hear Kibutsuji Muzan’s voice, and only with a strand of hair, Genya became as powerful, not all, as Kokushibo.
To make up for his lack of physical abilities, Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima taught Genya Repetitive Action. Unlike other Demon Slayers, Genya is unable to use Breathing Styles. And instead of Nichirin blades, which are used to kill Demons, Genya uses a gun. Genya even learned his own Blood Demon Technique/ Art while fighting Kokushibo.
Genya’s abilities may lack strength, but not will. He is always moving forward to protect his older brother, Sanemi.

Will Genya Die in Kimetsu no Yaiba?
Sadly, yes. Genya dies. “My brother, in this world, you are the kindest person…. thank…you… big… brother…” and Genya leaves. Manga readers are aware of it, but anime fans are yet to know. By the time fans get to know Genya and start loving him, he will leave us.
In the Manga chapter 172, Genya eats Kokushibo’s broken sword. As mentioned earlier, he even ends up eating Kokushibo’s hair. That’s gross, but that’s just Genya’s style!! Genya cornered Kokushibo, he shot bullets with his somewhat not-so western gun, captured Kokushibo, and attacked with all his might. When Kokushibo was cornered, his life in danger, he couldn’t hold in. He went savage and fatally attacked the Demon Slayers, including Gyomei, Sanemi, Mist Pillar: Muichiro Tokito, and Genya. By the time Sanemi came to consciousness, he was wounded by Kokushibo, he saw Genya in a state he always wanted to not. Genya was taken away, heart-wrenching part, and Sanemi just begged to not take him away.
“Never judge a book by its cover” is how the saying goes. But one forgets when one is immersed in a scene. I, too, judged Genya, thinking how rude he is to our protagonist, but he made me regret it. Genya is such a reliable character, and yet we might have been late in realizing that.
