Who is Furuta?
Furuta primarily worked as an agent of V brought up in the Sunlit Garden. Such was his fate that was already pre-destined since his birth as he was the illegitimate son of the former chairman of CCG, Tsuneyoshi Washuu. He is similar to Kaneki Ken in the sense that he, too, is an artificial one-eyed ghoul who had the power to wield Rize Kamishiro’s kagune.
Furuta was initially shown to be a person possessing the characteristics of being thoughtful, quiet, and softspoken. He is shown to be a loyal friend who cared equally for the lives around him and an individual who always respected his superiors, colleagues, and subordinates alike. These characteristics led him to become an extremely well-liked, respected, and highly trusted member who was tasked with very important tasks without a second thought from his superiors. However, these were all deceptive characteristics that helped him attain his objectives by hiding the rotten person that he truly was. In actuality, what nobody realized was that Furuta was a callous man, nonchalant about the lives and wellbeings of anyone other than himself. All he saw of people were of them being pawns to be manipulated and killed in order to attain his evil goals.
Most of the crimes he committed were also so that he could have a good laugh in the end. In direct contrast to his fake personality, Furuta was someone who relished every opportunity to criticize and bring down others’ morals, in particular his bosses and the people he despised. If one were to try to understand the reason behind Furuta’s actions, you would find as you read that he was, beneath all the facades, just a broken guy who knew that owing to his unfavorable family origins, he was destined to live a brief and tragic life. This was a fact that he had accepted since his childhood, and struck by the helplessness of his situation, he hence decided to do everything for his own amusement. Tokyo Ghoul, staying true to its style, even gives the worst villain a pitiful end.

At that point, a young Furuta did not understand the meaning behind the sentence but eventually, as he grew up, he came to realize the truth about the statement as well as its link with his own predestined fate.
