Why Is One-Punch Man Season 3 Delayed?

Why is One-Punch Man Season 3 Delayed?
Saitama, One-Punch Man

One-Punch Man was initially released as a webcomic by the mangaka, ONE. Later, this franchise was published in tankobon manga volumes. Thereon, the series became highly popular. One-Punch Man is a story regarding a regular office worker, Saitama, who one day decided to help a child in danger. Since then, he has trained his body through regular training exercises.

Surprisingly, his strength reached a threshold that was powerful enough to beat powerful enemies with a single strike. This story doesn’t follow the heroics of Saitama but acts as a parody of how superheroes are shown to be powerful with barely any logic behind them. As it has been quite some time since One-Punch Man Season 2 aired, here in this article, we will discuss why One-Punch Man Season 3 is delayed?

One-Punch Man Season 2 end Twitter Post

Yes, One-Punch Man Season 3 is being delayed. When One Punch Man Season 2 aired, it received a lot of criticisms making one wonder if the anime will get canceled. On one note, One-Punch Man hasn’t been officially renewed for a third season. But fortunately, it hasn’t been canceled either, evidently because of a tweet by One-Punch Man’s Official Twitter page. In this tweet, they thanked the viewers for watching the second season. And while they did so, they asked for the fans’ support so that a season three will soon be approved for beginning production. If so, they promised to get back soon to produce the third season.

Is there enough Source material?

Mangaka ONE’s work for One-Punch Man soon became famous with their manga releases. Thereafter as the anime started getting produced, he won several awards. Fueled by the love shown by the fans, One-Punch Man continued releasing its manga volumes. And right now, the series has accumulated 23 manga volumes, with volume number 24 expected to arrive somewhere around mid-2021.

Why is One-Punch Man Season 3 Delayed?

One-Punch Man Manga Volume 23 Cover

Madhouse covered the first seven manga volumes for One-Punch Man Season 1. Meanwhile, J.C. Staff used the story from manga Volume 8 to halfway through Volume 17. Due to this, J.C. Staff may be having limited source material for One-Punch Man Season 3. Right now, they have around six and a half volumes of content, so they may wait until Volume 24 arrives. Supposedly, One-Punch Man Volume 24 or Volume 25 should have the climax for the current arc. So, it only makes sense that One-Punch Man Season 3 be delayed until more source material is available. Fortunately for the fans, the One-Punch Man manga is still pretty popular and therefore is it may run for more time. As of now, the manga has reached chapter number 140, and it may not be long before the arc ends.

What is the Possible Plot for One-Punch Man Season 3?

The ending of One-Punch Man Season 3 had Garou fight against a bunch of heroes. During this part of the story, we had started the Monsters Association Arc. So, it is given that the next season of One-Punch Man will continue with this storyline. In the upcoming season, we can expect quite a few one-on-one battles between S-Rank heroes of the Heroes Association and members of the Monsters Association. The upcoming episodes may have more focus on the monsters and villains. During that, we may see more of Garou as he would gain new powers, strong enough to withstand a fight with Saitama that could go more than a single punch. Moreover, in this season, we may even see more of Lord Orochi and possibly a fight between him and Saitama.

When will One-Punch Man Season 3 premiere?

One-Punch Man Season 3 is set to be released somewhere along with late 2022 or early 2023. There was a huge gap of 4 years between the release of One Punch-Man Season 1 and Season 2. This was due to the change in the production team from Madhouse to J.C. Staff. But, even if it took so long to produce the second season, fans were far from pleased with the animation. Therefore, there is a chance for a switch in the animation team again, causing a further delay. Otherwise, if there is no change in the studio, One-Punch Man Season 3 should not be delayed any more than what the pandemic restrictions would do.

Primarily, the reason for the delay has to be due to the source material. As mentioned above, One-Punch Man Volume 24 is to be released somewhere in mid- 2021. Supposedly, this manga volume should complete the current Monsters Association Arc. This should allow for the creators to frame the anime around a possible arc ending. Surely, if One-Punch Man Season 3 is only delayed than canceled, production using the available material may have already begun. Until the One-Punch Man Season 3 arrives, you may watch the previous two seasons on Netflix and Crunchyroll or even read the manga on Viz Media.
