Who is John-Miles Lewis? Children of famous personalities seldom enjoy privacy in their lives. Just as their famous parents, they too receive a lot of attention and are frequently talked about. However, there are exceptions. There are some who manage to keep their personal lives undisclosed. One such child who has kept his personal and professional life discreet is John-Miles Lewis. He is the adopted son of John Robert Lewis and Lillian Miles.

John Robert Lewis was a renowned figure in the civil rights movement, which gained momentum in 1954 and lasted till 1968. The civil rights movement saw the March on Washington that would witness the historic “I Have a Dream” speech by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. John was a Democrat who served in the House of Representatives from 1987 to 2020. Lillian Miles was John Lewis’ wife and political adviser. Lewis was one of the “Big Six” leaders of groups who organized the 1963 March on Washington.

What made John Lewis the man he was?

John Lewis was born on February 21, 1940, near Troy, Alabama. He was born in a family of 10 children, and his parents were sharecroppers. Rural Alabama was a very poor place, and Lewis’ family had very few books. His early education took place in a little building named Rosenwald School, which was supported by the community. It was the only school they had, and Lewis had a really good teacher who encouraged him to keep reading.

The place where he lived was populated with the black population, so he had never interacted with the whites much. It was not until later, in 1965 when he was 16 years old, that he first felt the fangs of racism. He had gone to the public library with some of his brothers and sisters to get a library card, only to be denied. The fact being that the library was only for the whites, not for the colored. After that, he knew what he wanted to do in life.
