Cordae Amari Dunston, known popularly as Cordae, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He was born on August 26th in the year 1997. He gained popularity by releasing remixes of popular songs, such as “My Name Is” by Eminem and “Old Niggas”. He was born in Raleigh, North Carolina but later moved to Suitland, Maryland. As a young child, he’d taken an interest in music as his father would always play classic hip hop around him. He began writing raps around the age of fifteen but did not take it seriously, as it was only a hobby for him. Dunston began gaining more interest in pursuing a rap career as he aged but focused on his education first, although writing lyrics often distracted him from his studies. He released three mixtapes as a teenager under the name “Entendre” – Anxiety, I’m So Anxious, and I’m So Anonymous.
Cordae participated in a Black Lives Matter protest in the year 2016 while rapping among the crowd about the struggles he faced and the issues he’d been noticing in his community. In July of the year 2020, he was arrested at a Breonna Taylor protest in Louisville, Kentucky, along with American professional football player Kenny Stills. He began taking his rap career seriously at the beginning of the year 2018. His debut live performance was at the annual Rolling Loud music festival in May in the year 2018, in which he performed with both YBN Nahmir and YBN Almighty Jay. On August 2nd of the year, 2018, both Nahmir and Cordae released a video for their single “Pain Away.” Later on August 12th YBN Nahmir announced that an official YBN Mixtape which was featuring the trio would be released on September 7th in the year 2018.
Cordae released the music video for his single “Scotty Pippen” on August 23rd of the year 2018. He released a music video for a new song titled “Locationships” on his YouTube channel on January 28th in the year 2019. Later he released “Bad Idea” and “RNP” as the second and third singles from the album respectively. On August 6th in the year 2020, YBN Nahmir took to Twitter to announce that the YBN collective officially disbanded. On August 27, Cordae released a new single named “Gifted” featuring Roddy Ricch, which was marking Cordae’s first release of the year 2020. He is currently working on his second album. During an interview with Apple Music, he stated, “I’m like a hundred songs deep in. Like this next one, I’m not taking everything to a whole ‘nother level. I really love doing music and perfecting my craft, and I’m getting better every day. And the new music from here on out is going to show that”.

Cordae and Naomi Osaka met around 2019 when they exchanged phone numbers before heading to a LA Clippers game for their first date. At the time, he didn’t follow tennis and had no idea of Osaka’s fame. At the basketball game, he enjoyed more star power in the crowd.
