Wild Things Plot Explained
Two young students, wealthy and popular Kelly Van Ryan (played by Denisse Ricahrds) and poor weirdo Suzie Toller (played by Neve Campbell), have accused high school guidance counselor Sam Lombardo (Matt Dillon) of rape in the Miami area. Kenneth Bowden, a lawyer, is hired to represent him.
Suzie admits lying to get revenge on Sam for not bailing her out of jail on a minor drug charge, and Kelly admits lying to get revenge on Sam for his affair with her mother. Sam and Kenneth reach a $8.5 million defamation settlement. Sam and the two girls were revealed to be collaborators who used the trial to extort money from Kelly’s wealthy family.
The Con
The trio is suspected of being part of a con, according to police detective Ray Duquette (played by Kevin Bacon). He continues to investigate Sam against the wishes of the state’s attorney. Sam has already moved the funds to an off-shore account, he informs Kelly and Suzie. Suzie becomes distressed and seeks solace from Kelly. Kelly, on the other hand, calls Sam and says they might have to get rid of Suzie. Suzie attacks Kelly in the pool. They fight but end up kissing in front of Ray, who is unaware of their relationship. Sam kills Suzie at the beach a few nights later, while Kelly stands nearby. They drive to the swamp, where Sam buries the body wrapped in plastic.
The Murder
Suzie’s disappearance is being investigated by Ray and his partner, Detective Gloria Perez. Her blood and teeth were discovered on the beach, while her car was discovered at a bus station. The D.A.’s office demands that Ray drop the case once more, but he asks Gloria to keep an eye on Sam. Gloria Kelly’s academic files, which claim she is a troubled and violent adolescent, are shown to Sam. Meanwhile, Ray visits Kelly’s home, where he confronts a terrified and upset Kelly.
Three gunshots are heard after Ray enters her room, after which Ray leaves the room and falls down. Kelly fired the first shot, he claims, and he killed her in self-defense. He is not charged, but he is fired from the police force for disobeying an order. Sam is discovered to be working with Ray. Although Sam is upset that Ray killed Kelly rather than simply framing her for Suzie’s death, he acknowledges that there are fewer loose ends now. On Sam’s sailboat, the two go sailing, and Sam tries to kill Ray. When Ray fights back, Suzie, who is still alive, shoots and kills him. She then poisons Sam’s drink and throws him overboard, ensuring that his body is never discovered.

Wild Things Ending Explained: It Was Suzie All Along
Several scenes in the credits help to fill in the blanks. Suzie Toller, Sam Lombardo, Sgt. Ray Duquette, Kelly Van Ryan, and attorney Kenneth Bowden are the five co-conspirators. Suzie is confirmed to be the plot’s ultimate mastermind as she sails off into the sunset alone. Suzie enters Sam’s guidance office and places a set of photos of him and Kelly having sex on his desk in order to blackmail him into assisting her with the plot. She arranges for Sam and Ray to meet for the first time. She pulls a tooth from her own jaw with a pair of pliers. Finally, Kenneth hands her a briefcase full of cash, which he describes as “walking around money,” as well as a check for huge amounts of money, and tells her to “be good” as she walks away.
