Which K-Pop group is most popular in India – BTS’ Indian ARMY
BTS’ rise in India has not happened overnight. In fact, it was a very gradual and organic process. Though the band debuted in June 2013, they started getting noticed in India during their DOPE era. Indian music channels like Vh1 started playing BTS’ music after their Wings album was released, and the boys began winning award shows in South Korea. A massive impact happened with the release of DNA and Fake Love. The fandom kept getting larger with Boy With Luv and more new songs. However, it wasn’t until the streaming statistics for Dynamite were released that the band’s Indian fanbase truly established itself as a force to reckon with. By the time Butter and Permission to Dance were released, India became one of the countries with the most streams and views on all BTS content.
India, in itself, has a flourishing pop-culture industry. It is difficult to influence the older generations and drift them away towards something that doesn’t have much to do with Bollywood. However, BTS has done it, and now even our Bollywood artists stand contended by a worthy opponent.
Who is BTS?
At this point, it no longer matters whether you are an active consumer of pop culture. You would probably have to live under a rock to not know who BTS is. Bangtan Sonyeondan, or Beyond the Scene, is a seven-member boy group under HYBE Corporation in Seoul, South Korea. They debuted in June 2013.
The seven members of BTS are Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, and Jeon Jungkook. While Namjoon or RM is the leader, Jungkook is the youngest member of the band, and Seokjin, or simply Jin, is the oldest. BTS’ global success has been gradual. Though today they are often referred to as the ‘Sold-Out Kings’, this wasn’t the case always. In the early days of their careers, the boys gave out free tickets to their concert in Los Angelos to pedestrians in the streets.
As of 2021, there is no doubt that BTS is not only the biggest band in India but the whole world. Their influence and artistry are no longer restricted to the constraints that have been set by the K-Pop industry. It is also not a surprise that BTS is a cultural asset to South Korea. In order to cement this fact, the South Korean President, Moon Jae In, appointed the seven members as Special Presidential Envoys. BTS will represent South Korea in the United Nations General Assembly later this week. They have also been given diplomatic passports for the mission.
