Bandolero!

In this article, we cover Where was Bandolero! Filmed? This American Western movie Bandolero! It was a 1968 production directed by Andrew V. McLaglen. It stars James Stewart, Dean Martin, Raquel Welch, and George Kennedy. The plot revolves around two brothers on the run from a posse headed by a local sheriff who wants to apprehend them and release a captive they kidnapped along the way. The brothers enter the incorrect region, ruled by “Bandoleros.”

Andrew McLaglen (he also directed “Shenandoah” and “The Way West”) shot part of the action on-site. Martin conducts himself with his customary calm skill. In this movie, he doesn’t consume even a single tiny whiskey —a feat very unlike Dean Martin. Similarly, the film’s popularity stems from many excellent Hollywood character performers, such as Denver Pyle. They portrayed Frank Hamer in “Bonnie and Clyde,” Will Geer, the bewhiskered elderly outlaw, Harry Carey, Clint Ritchie, and Dub Taylor.

The Alamo Village is a movie set and tourist attraction located north of Brackettville, Texas. It was the setting for John Wayne’s 1960 film The Alamo, starring Wayne, Richard Widmark, Laurence Harvey, and Frankie Avalon. In addition, it also served as the film location for Bandolero!, and over 100 additional western films, documentaries, music videos, and advertisements have been filmed on different sections of the set.

James T. “Happy” Shahan of Brackettville, designated the “Father of the Texas Movie Industry” by Governor George W. Bush in 1995, created the set. In September 1957, Shahan started constructing the stage on his ranch for Wayne. The latter had spent years producing a film about the Battle of the Alamo for Republic Pictures before eventually breaking away to establish Batjac Productions. In August of 1959, filming started.

Here is some interesting Bandolero! production details

Bandolero! was initially titled Mace. Larry McMurtry, the novel Lonesome Dove, has paid tribute to Bandolero! by giving his characters identical names. Both stories begin near the border with Mexico and include bandoleros. Both feature a sheriff called July Johnson and a deputy named Roscoe who go a long way to find a wanted criminal and the lady who has spurned the sheriff’s love. In both tales, a charming criminal called Dee is ready to be hung and wins the woman’s heart before he dies. The main protagonists in the Lonesome Dove miniseries pass right in front of the Alamo—or at least a set constructed to look like the Alamo.
