David Berkowitz, who considered himself the Son Of The Sam, was initially a US army soldier. He was working as a letter sorter for the US Postal Service. David was an adopted son of Pearl and Nathan Berkowitz. The 1953 US-born David started a spree of killings which made the subject of numerous dramas, Documentaries, Songs, and movies such as the Spike Lee film Summer of Sam, the TV series Mindhunter and the Beastie Boys’ 1989 track ‘Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun’.

The inane acts of David Berkowitz led to the death of many innocent people and brought darkness to a lot of victims who were lucky enough to survive. David committed eight shooting scenes between July 29, 1976, and July 31, 1977. The killer identified himself through an A44 revolver.
His first victim was two teenagers sitting in a car at 1 am on July 29, 1976. The two girls Jody Valenti and Donna Lauria, parked their car in front of Lauria’s home in the Bronx when David came out of nowhere on opened fire on them. Lauria died on the spot, but Valenti survived, badly wounded. A few months later, another couple, Christine Freund and her fiancé, was shot in a car parking lot by the same man. The police the same bullets which were used in the earlier killing. That’s when the police recognized that the two killings were interlinked.
The rumors heated up of a serial killer on loose named as the 44-caliber killer,” which later evolved to “Son of Sam.” Later the victim was two teenage girls walking home. The girls were highly wounded, and one of them ended up being paraplegic. The series of killings didn’t end here. The killer continued till six people ended up losing their life to a maniac serial killer, and seven were wounded badly for the rest of their lives. The series of Son of Sam killings became the biggest manhunt in the history of New York.

Certain journalists and media masters worked a lot to unleash the truth, but this is a really big question. All the shots were not David’s doing. The man was linked with a cult of delinquent thinkers, and all the shots were not taken by David. There were other people involved in the killings.
Where Is David Berkowitz Now?
As of now, David has turned 67 and is currently convicted and given a life of a prisoner. The son of sam is imprisoned at Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Ulster County, New York. After the fatal accidents, The serial killer was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment for the life of each of the six victims, which concludes that he received 300 years of captivity. Later he received vindication for just 25 years for pleading guilty to the charges against him and ensuring good behavior.
Justice was delivered by rejecting his parole every time since 2002. David’s last hearing for parole was in 2020 but was dismissed due to Covid-19.
David had a heart attack in 2017 and was hospitalized for degraded health but recovered soon. Now David considers himself as the son of hope for getting a rebirth according to the Christians. He is now a product of baptism and is living his prison life for all his sins.
