The official anime movie by New Line Cinema and Warner Bros., The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, will have an amazing plot as it will explore the adventures of Helm Hammerhand, who is the King of Rohan. The show will also feature Helm’s Deep, which was featured in Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.” It will be set approximately two centuries just before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings.”
Kenji Kamiyama, who is the director of anime like “Blade Runner: Black Lotus” as well as “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” is also directing “The War of the Rohirrim” with “Blade Runner: Black Lotus’s” producer Joseph Chou, who will be working through his anime studio Sola Entertainment, and they have been working on the movie since it was announced, back in June 2021.
About The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Anime
“The War of the Rohirrim” takes a lot of its artistic touches from Peter Jackson’s six middle-earth films, and the first glance at concept art from the film looks absolutely gorgeous. Philippa Boyens is executive producing the picture and was a member of the Oscar-winning screenwriting crew for “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” sequels. The screenplay is being written by Boyens’ daughter, Phoebe Gittins, and her writing partner, Arty Papageorgiou, inspired by a script by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews. Richard Taylor (Oscar winner for makeup and visual effects for “The Lord of the Rings”), Alan Lee (Oscar winner for art direction for “LOTR”), plus Tolkien artist John Howe are among the creative team.
WB’s approach on an animation “Lord of the Rings” movie comes while the company is in a legal battle with Saul Zaentz Co., the longstanding owner of “LOTR” film and Television rights, as to whether the company has done enough work on the series to keep its grasp on live-action and animated feature rights.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Anime Release Date
Warner Bros. Pictures said on Monday that The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, an anime movie that was announced in 2021, will be aired on April 12, 2024. Kenji Kamiyama directs, and Philippa Boyens executive produces the film, which would be a collaboration between Warner Bros. Animation and New Line Cinema.
Warner Bros. also released additional original artwork from the movie, made by Weta Workshop, including the release date. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will depict the tale of Helm’s Deep, concentrating on “one of Middle-most earth’s legendary individuals; the powerful King of Rohan’s existence and blood stained times.”
Setting
Of course, Helm’s Deep is prominently depicted in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The story of the castle of Helm’s Deep is explored in Rohirrim, which was first revealed in June. It takes place centuries before Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and features a long action sequence set on the citadel. The anime film will also take place during the bloody reign of Helm Hammerhand, the great ruler of Rohan. The film is directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who also directed Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou wrote the script for Rohirrim, which is inspired by a story by Jeffrey Addiss and also Matthews, the duo behind Netflix’s Stranger Things.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim Preview
The War of the Rohirrim centers on a figure from the book’s appendix, Helm Hammerhand, the powerful King of Rohirrim. A huge conflict alters middle-earth, which happens before the events of The Lord of the Rings. The anime film will delve into Hammerhand’s existence and bloody times, as well as the unknown story behind the castle of Helm’s Deep. Overall, the movie is a prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which takes place centuries before the first film in the third age.
Blade Runner: Black Lotus as well as the TV series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex were both created by Kamiyama. Will Matthews and Jeffrey Addiss, scriptwriters of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, are composing the script. The Lord of the Rings movies have earned $5.9 billion at the global box office, along with the Lord of the Rings trilogy, are by far the most acclaimed movie franchise in existence, with the largest number of Academy Awards and nominations, notably 11 Oscars for Return of the King, matching the milestone for a single movie.
Cast
Joseph Chou will direct, with Phoebe Gittins & Arty Papageorgiou composing the screenplay, which is based on a story by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, who also wrote The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Warner Bros. has announced that John Howe and Richard Taylor will rejoin the Lord of the Rings creative department. Production on the graphics began last year, according to Warner Bros., with vocal casting “to be announced fairly soon.” The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, according to Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich, will be “beyond anything viewers have seen yet.”
New Line initially published Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 20 years ago. Return of the King, Jackson’s third film, earned the best picture, one of the 17 Oscars the trilogy received. The three films grossed a total of $2.9 billion at the box office, prompting Jackson to return to create a prequel trilogy based on The Hobbit by Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Trailer
The announcement was made just 24 hours since Amazon unveiled the teaser for an independent project, Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, described as one of the most costly television shows ever made with a $1 billion budget. “The War of the Rohirrim” is also linked to Amazon Prime Video’s Middle-earth show “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” which takes place millennia prior to Jackson’s films.
“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” the most recent live-action Tolkien movie, garnered $940 million at the box office in 2014; all six films have earned more than $5.8 billion. “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including best picture, breaking the milestone for the most for a single film.
