Episode 1 premiered the 14th season with the first Big Opening. In a deviation from other seasons, this one had a two-part premiere. The opening episode sees seven new contestants arriving at the workroom. After the info about the new changes, the queens learn other important details. It kicks off with a mini-challenge. This challenge involves a photoshoot that the queens have to do while strapped to a spinning wheel.
The winner of the mini-challenge is Kerri Colby. Then there’s the main challenge wherein the queens put forth their talents in a talent show. Bosco’s talent is Burlesque, Alyssa Hunter performs lip-sync, while June performs African dance. Kerri Colby performs Jump rope/lip-syncing, Orion Story performs Comedy skit, while Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté sings an original song. Finally, Willow Pill’s performance is self-care in quarantine.
The runway category was Signature Show-Stopping Drag. Kornbread “The Snack” Jeté bags the win with Willow Pill, also attracting favorable comments. Meanwhile, Alyssa, June, and Orion fail to charm the judges. Out of these three, Alyssa is safe, which brings the elimination cloud over Orion and June. The decider is a lip-sync. June and Orion have to lip-sync to “Water Me” by Lizzo. June Jambalaya wins the lip-sync, and Orion Story gets eliminated. The episode saw Lizzo being the guest judge while Ross Matthew served as an alternating judge.
What went down in Episode 2?
Episode 2 marked the second premiere night for the new season. The rest of the 14 queens arrive and the show begins. The mini-challenge entails a photoshoot inside a huge bowl filled with tic-tacs. Angeria Paris VanMichaels emerges as the winner. Then it’s the main challenge wherein the queens showcase their talents. For the talent show, Van Michaels performs an original song, Daya Betty performs lip-syncing, while DeJa Skye performs a cheerleading comedy routine. Jasmine Kennedie also performs a lip-sync with dance. Jorgeous performs lip-syncing, Lady Camden performs ballet, while Maddy Morphosis plays an electric guitar.
It’s the runway showdown next, and the category is Signature Drag. Daya Betty and DeJa Skye come at the bottom of the Signature Drag challenge. They have a lip-sync battle, where they lip-sync to Alicia Keys’s “Fallin”. DeJa emerges as the winner, and Daya Betty gets elimination.
