“Roses are Red, Omae wa mou Shindeiru, Do you know what a Sussy Baka is? Why…Why are you acting like one, Deku?” If you caught on the references above, you might realize that memes have now become a form of language – a mode of communication. Regardless of whether or not you watch anime or play video games, you probably know or have come across words and phrases that have been taken out from these worlds. This shows that Anime, as well as Video Games, as a culture, have spread everywhere across the globe.
These gaming and anime slangs have made their way into our memes, and so on have become a part of many “inside” jokes. Since communication is an important thing for us humans to express our emotions, these slangs have replaced regular boring words.
Lately, a new combination of words has come into existence. This pair of words comes from both the aforementioned worlds. After one viral video, it is now a part of popular catchphrases and tons of memes. Soon you will find it as a part of your vocabulary. This new combo is known as the “Sussy Baka”.
What is a Sussy Baka?
It is always a good thing to know your memes. So where exactly did this combination of words come from? It all started when someone called Deku, a character from My Hero Academia, a ‘baka’ – screaming “Baka! Deku!! Why are you acting such like a Baka?! Deku!! Why are you acting such like a Baka?!”. Nope, it wasn’t Bakugo this time but he would definitely love this moment from Akeam Francis’ TikTok live stream.
After some time, a TikToker with the ID name Nyatsumii posted this snippet from the live stream on the same platform which, after a month, gained 1.7 million views. Since then, the phrase has had a variant of TikTok covers. In one of these covers, Akeam replied to a comment that asked him to repeat the same phrase, but this time with an add-on word – “Sussy”. Thus, the birth of the new phrase. Deku was now a Sussy Baka. But what do the words really mean?
To break it down, Sussy comes from the viral game Among Us that took over the internet by storm in the earlier days of the Pandemic. In the game, when people were suspected of being an imposter, they would be termed as ‘sus’ as in ‘suspicious’. Whereas, ‘Baka’ is a Japanese word that means ‘fool’ or ‘silly’. So, if you ever suspect someone of being foolish or silly, you can call them a ‘Sussy Baka’ (affectionately or derogatorily).
Although we have many characters who could make a team full of Sussy Bakas, here are 5 such characters that had their Sussy Baka moments:
Light Yagami from Death Note
Light although being a bright character at the beginning of the Anime, ended up having many Sussy Baka moments. In fact, he was literally an imposter among them all and definitely a sus! As the anime progresses, we have seen him almost give himself away many times. In the end? He lost to a 13-year-old. What a baka! Although I gotta admit it, I’d like to see a series where he plays Among Us while monologuing.
Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan
Lately, Eren Yeager has been having his own Baka moments, or perhaps it has been going on for a long time now. However, the video above that blew up on the internet gives him a spot on this list. I bet you have played this audio more than once, and if your humor is as broken as mine, you cannot move on from this.
Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto
According to us, Emo boi Sussyke Uchiha had his Baka moment when he showed up in the middle of the 4th Great Ninja war and announced himself as a candidate to become the Hokage. Play that scene again, and you’ll find even Kiba’s dog Akamaru going “Bruh…?”
Kaguya and Shirogane from Kaguya-Sama: Love is War
When watching this anime I am sure that you have either blushed or facepalmed yourself because of their “Bakaness”. Both are admirable characters since they are very intelligent and introspective of what they do. However, their pride also uses their intelligence to play their silly games against each other, making them suspicious bakas.
