Lizzo's New Song Criticized For Using Slurs

Lizzo has been denounced for using an ableist slur in her new single ‘Grrrls’

where in the opening verse, she sings

"

...

Hold my bag, bi____ hold my bag / Do you see this s____? I’ma s**z.”

While utilized informally in the United States with a similar meaning to ‘freak out’ or ‘go crazy’,

the term rises out of the word 'spastic', which is utilized medicinally to portray the fits one could insight from a condition like cerebral palsy.

The term is in many cases utilized in a derogative way to portray those with disabilities.

The single was released on last Friday (June 10),

fans and disability activists took to social media to show their disappointments.

"There’s no excuse for using an ableist insult in a song in 2022. As someone who champions women, plus size people and others whom society treats poorly, Lizzo preaches inclusivity and should do better."

advocate Callum Stephen

Some required the track to be pulled down and once again transferred with the line removed.
