Season 3 of the historical drama called ‘The Last Kingdom’ aired on BBC in 2015 and 2017 respectively. We heard some rumors and Speculations about the fate of the series. While there were fears that the show would be canceled, the fans of the show were joyous as soon as Netflix announced it would take responsibility for the series from Season 3 onwards. Therefore Season 3 of ‘The Last Kingdom’ will air on Netflix exclusively. Not only that, ‘The Last Kingdom’ will air on Netflix worldwide and not in specific regions.
‘The Last Kingdom’ Season 3: Release Date
It is known that the show will make it to Netflix before 2019, most definitely this year. The exact release date of the show is unknown for now as Netflix has made no official confirmation. However, Cornwell (Author) confirmed for us that he expected the series to return in Autumn schedule of Netflix. He said: “Yes, the show will return on- Netflix- probably this Autumn.”
Back in April of 2018, Alexander Dreymon the guy who plays Uhtred made a social media announcement via his Twitter account confirming that the series was in the production phase and would be out later this year. It looks like fans of the series wouldn’t have to wait long.
‘The Last Kingdom’ Season 3: Episodes
Yeah, the show is based on real historical events, but of course, most of the elements of the series are fictionalized. The series is based on a Novel called The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell. It talks of 9th and 10th centuries Britain. Cornwell has spoken of the background in the novel being ‘grimly real.’
The series takes place during the era when Danes invaded United kingdom and when England was divided into seven kingdoms. There will be a total of 10 episodes in the third season as per a confirmation that was given by Cornwell.
‘The Last Kingdom’ Season 3: Cast
Obviously, Alexander Dreymon of The American Horror Story will reprise his lead role for Season 3. David Dawson will return as King Alfred the Great. Emily Cox will also be back as the ruthless warrior Brida. Eliza Butterworth to be back as Alfred’s wife namely Aelswith. Millie Brady will be back as the Princess Aethelflaed who was kidnapped at the end of season 2. Toby Rego who’s a newcomer will be back as Princess Aethelflaed’s husband.
