Even if in a comic tone, we’ve all been asked, “would you choose friends or money?” at least once in our lives. What if your lives actually depended on the very same question? What if you knew someone had a gun pointed at your back, but to survive, you must pretend to not know and trust them. This is what the concept around which the Tomodachi Game revolves around. Tomodachi Game is an insane psychological thriller that tries to tell its readers to trust everyone but at the same time reminds them that no one can be trusted, especially when there are lives on the line. Previously, an anime adaptation of the manga was announced, but as of March 2022, the Tomodachi Game release date has been confirmed. It turns out the winds of spring will be filled with suspense and thrill for anime fans.
Tomodachi Game is based on a manga that was launched in 2013. The manga is written by Mikoto Yamaguchi, who also wrote ‘Dead Tube’ and ‘Who Wants to Marry a Billionaire?’ and illustrated by Yuki Sato, who also illustrated Sherlock Bones and wrote (and illustrated) Yokai Doctor. Tomodachi Game was published by Kodansha and serialized in the Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine at the time of writing and is compiled into 18 volumes. In its last nine years of publication, the manga has been praised for its brilliant main characters and twisted storyline.
The upcoming anime adaptation is one worth looking forward to. Here is everything we know about the Tomodachi Game release date and more.
Tomodachi Game: Plot
The protagonist of the anime is Yuuichi Katagiri, a high school student who has only one motto: friends are more important than money. He considers his four friends– Shiho Sawaragi, Makoto Shibe, Yutori Kokorogi, and Tenji Mikasa– very important and even believed that they would stay friends forever.
To go on a trip with them, Yuuichi works hard to earn the fee. However, the collected money is stolen surprisingly, and the five friends later find themselves in a closed room. Soon a canceled manga character ‘Manabu Kun’ appears and explains that one of the five was in a debt of 200 million yen. To clear their debt, they had paid the fee of 20 million debt to enter themselves and their friends in the Tomodachi Game, where they all must play to return the debt.
The only strategy to win the game is to trust each other. While this sounds easy, Yuuichi understands how this could be the most difficult thing to carry out as he realizes that there is a traitor among them. With no knowledge of whose debt it is and who entered them in the game, the five must continue. As they do, their friendship falls at stake, and doubts begin to develop.
Tomodachi Game has a generic start, but soon things start getting more intense as we discover how twisted every character in the story is.
