Dating reality TV shows, though quite trashy, have always been a sort of guilty pleasure for viewers. Audiences just love watching couples or potential couples put through a series of unrealistic challenges to figure out if they belong together. One such upcoming dating reality TV show is The Ultimatum or The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On, which will premiere on Netflix. The show will follow couples as they decide whether to get hitched or call it quits. The couples will put their love to the test while shacking up with other potential matches in this provocative reality series. Sounds like it is going to be quite entertaining.
The Ultimatum stars Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey. The show has received so much traction even before its release that more than a week before the show premieres on Netflix, the dating series has already been renewed for a second season. That is quite an achievement even before its release.

The Ultimatum will revolve around six couples on the verge of marriage. An ultimatum is issued as one partner is ready to take the next step, but the other is not quite there yet. The duo will have to choose to fully commit or move on over the course of eight weeks. Each individual will choose a potential partner from other couples in the same situation and live together to get a glimpse of what their future could look like for three of those weeks. The executive producers of the show include Chris Coelen, Eric Detwiler, Sarah Dillistone, Stephanie Boyriven, Kelly Montalvo, and Chris Cullen. In an interview, Coelen said that the show is based on a very real relatable conversation and situation for many, many people, everyone has either been in that situation or has known people who have been in that situation at some point in their lives.
He further went on to say that what is more fascinating is when one looks at the reasons that people give for not being ready. There is a multitude of reasons which people give, “I come from a family background of bad relationships. I do not want to repeat my past.” or, “I’m not ready. I’m too young” or, “I need to be financially stable”. The real reason is that they are probably not sure if they want to marry this person that they are with, even though there may be some validity to some of those reasons. Most of these things which people say are excuses and are very common. Coelen was very excited to dive into the situation for the show, which he teases as very “addicting” to watch since it is so common. He also explained that they allow them to choose another partner that they think has the qualities of someone that they would want to potentially marry and get an opportunity to live out a trial marriage with that person.
