Plot
The Teacher’s plot revolves around Jenna Garvey, a reckless English teacher who is accused of having slept with a student named Kyle. However, she is unable to defend herself as she cannot remember anything about it because she was drunk at the time. Her staying out all night and drinking eventually catches up with her when she is accused of this, but people fail to understand why she drinks and parties so much. She has a lot going on in her personal life. After the death of her mother, she has struggled to maintain strong relationships. Also, she finds out that her ex-boyfriend, Brian, is in a new relationship with her colleague, Pauline. Jenna was keen for Brian to move in with her, but he was not on the same wavelength.
Jenna is known for her nights out on the town, and this is what lands her in hot water in the first place. The show opens with Jenna stumbling out of bed after a heavy night, after which she rushes to work at what looks like a private school. Jenna tries to escape her troubles by staying out all night and drinking. However, she is a very good teacher. She is later also asked to go in for an interview for Head of the English Department. After she gets the job, she goes out to celebrate by drinking and partying as usual, and this is the night that is responsible for the accusation against her. Kyle is the 15 years old student who tells Jenna that she had sex with him after the night out.
Kyle is part of the school’s scholarship program, and he does not come from the best family environment. His character is played by Samuel Bottomley, who is a 20 years old actor who played Jordon Wilson in Ackley Bridge. Then there is DI Sowerby, who is in charge of the police investigations following Kyle’s allegations. She is a no-nonsense cop and is played by Karen Henthorn, who is a 59 years old actress who starred as Teresa Bryant in Coronation Street. Pauline is a friend of Jenna’s and one of her colleagues at work. However, she eventually begins dating Brian. Despite this fact, she is actually a pretty selfless person who always tries to see the best in others and support them. Her character is played by Cecilia Noble.
The Teacher Filming Locations Revealed!
Channel 5’s four-part series is set in Bradford, a city in Yorkshire, but it was filmed over six weeks in a surprising location. The show was actually filmed in Hungary. Executive Producer, Mike Benson, said that he chose Budapest, which is the capital of Hungary, for budgetary reasons. He said that they had to film in Budapest for funding reasons and that the team did a fantastic job at making it look like Bradford. He also said that it was challenging and sometimes felt like a pressure cooker given the pandemic restrictions, which limited how much the cast and crew could socialize and relax together. There were even points when he did not think they would get through it, but fortunately for them, they had a really professional team and a really good pandemic officer, and they managed it.
