The Last Kingdom Season 3 delay is solely due to Netflix wanting to give it an exclusive air date, i.e., Winter Season, after the Summers done with movie/ big TV show premieres. The show will be given an exclusive Netflix premiere and will no longer air on BBC2 like it used to before. BBC2 for its part ended up discarding the show, so the sole responsibility fell to Netflix. Netflix decided of not canceling the Series but owning it and trying to better it, given the latest developments in Season 3. Alexander Dreymon who plays Uhtred of Bebbanburg on the show was seen on Season 3 of The Last Kingdom recently. He spotted a new look. He appears in a new avatar, with his hair visibly shorter than before.

Now for Season 3, Ragnar who is Uhtred’s brother and friend in the show will be given a bigger screen space. Ragnar is portrayed by Tobias Santelmann. Readers should know that Season 3 of The Last Kingdom is based on The Burning Land, which is the book 5. This book traces the union of Alexander and Tobias. And if you consider how The Burning Land shapes, Ragnar’s role is bigger than what we saw in the previous two Seasons. Now in Season 1 and 2, we only saw a bit of Ragnar the young here and there.
The Last Kingdom Season 3: News Updates
The Last Kingdom season 3 is reportedly based on book 5 and 6 of the Series written by Bernard Cornwell. These books are called The Burning Land and Death of Kings respectively. The Last Kingdom is adapted from The Saxon Stories by the same author. Like I mentioned the bigger role of Tobias Santelmann before, he posted a picture of Season 3 script on his Instagram recently. This script dates to April. This should also tell us that The Last Kingdom is done the shooting and must be in the post-production phase right now.
Anyway, we are getting closer to getting an official trailer, by the day. The other happy news is that The Last Kingdom will be available on Netflix as ten straight episode for us to binge watch on. So no more waiting for an entire week for an episode to come out (one of the advantages of a digital platform). This is the longest Season of The Last Kingdom till date, Seasons’ 1 and 2 has eight episodes each.
The Last Kingdom Season 3: Release Date
So for those of you who don’t know, The Last Kingdom has been deliberately held up by Netflix for a later release. Though most of the work is done, Netflix wanted to give it a unique airspace and time. Winter release would attract more viewers and that in turn will make sure that the show gets renewed for another Season. The Last Kingdom premieres it’s Season 3 later in 2018, a Winter release that is. We do not have an exact release date as of now. We’ll update this page as soon as we have it.
The Last Kingdom Season 3: Spoilers
Uhtred looks visibly a Nordic in the first image release. He’ll head North to see Ragnar and this will spend more time with him. Uhtred leaves Alfred after refusing to swear fealty to his Son. So he’ll be seen with Ragnar and his wife Brida. The show will centre on Uhtred’s doubts again. He will find it difficult to deal with Alfred (whom he swore loyalty to) and those who raised him. He’s gonna stay with Ragnar until there’s a call upon him. He’s meant to rescue Aethelflaed (Millie Brady) who is entangled in a situation created her evil husband Aethelred (Toby Regbo).
