Olivier Megaton directed this 2020 movie, whereas Karl Gajdusek wrote the screenplay of this movie. The 149 minutes long movie came out on June 5, 2020. This movie features actors like Édgar Ramírez as Graham Bricke, Anna Brewster as Shelby Dupree, Michael Pitt as Kevin Cash, and Tamer Burjaq as Ross King in lead roles. ‘The Last Days of American Crime’ presents a lot of sequences throughout the movie which will force you to brainstorm.
This movie is about a group of robbers who plan to conduct the greatest heist of their dream before the government launches their plan, which will end crime forever. However, the movie received little praise from the audience and critics for its directing and writing. Also, this 2020 American thriller came out when George Floyd protests were going on, which was also the reason behind the movie’s failure. But the audience praised the performance of the actors. What Happens In The American Thriller?
The movie takes place in 2024 where the government has come up with a synaptic blocking signal called American Peace Initiative (API) signal. This signal can prevent the very thoughts of committing a crime. The movie shifts to a robber, Graham Bricke, who was robbing a bank with his crew. But they tested the API signal on Bricke’s crew, resulting in one member dying. After the successful heist, Bricke lies to his employers, the Dumois family, that he lost the heist money. In reality, he hid the money because he planned to escape with that money to Canada.
But everything goes south for Bricke when he gets the news about the death of his brother, Rory, who was in prison. Further, someone took Bricke’s heist money. While looking for his money, Bricke visits Sidell and tortures him to reveal anything about the money. Sidell reveals that Johnny from Bricke’s heist team revealed about him hiding the money to the Dumois crime family. Thus, Bricke kills Johnny after killing Sidell. Later, he buys a neurotoxin and visits a bar, where he comes across Shelby Dupree. She introduces Bricke to Kevin Cash, who was with his brother in prison. Kevin reveals the API signal was tested on them in prison, and the prison guards killed Rory. Further, Shelby and Kevin offer Bricke to join them for a heist at the money factory, which they will conduct before the launch of the API signal.
Bricke gets Ross, his trusted getaway driver, for the heist. Further, he gets to know that Kevin was the heir of the Dumois family thus, takes on the leadership for the heist. Meanwhile, Shelby prepares fake bills worth $5 million for the heist using her skills. But soon, Bricke discovers that Shelby is working for the FBI, who threatened to hurt her sister if Shelby refuses to corporate. Further, officer Willian Sawyer gets on the case and gets immunity to the API signal. Kevin takes Bricke to meet his father, Rossi, but Rossi shoots Kevin, which results in Kevin killing his father. Soon, Rossi’s right-hand man, Lonnie, arrives and takes Shelby hostage. Lonnie drugged Shelby and was about to molest her when Bricke arrived and killed him. The team again sets on their plan to full fill the heist.
What Happens In ‘The Last Days of American Crime’ Ending?
On the day of the heist, Bricke, along with Kevin and Ross, goes to the money factory with the fake $5 million. Meanwhile, Shelby visits the API facility, where she takes control of the signal. She disrupts the signal while Bricke, Kevin, and Ross steal the money and escape with it. However, Sawyer arrives at the API facility and resumes the signal. The API signal affects Bricke and Ross but not Kevin, who then reveals that he and Rory were made to fight each other in prison while the guards torture them with the signal. Soon Kevin developed immunity for the API signal and killed Rory. Kevin kills Ross and was about to kill Bricke, but Shelby’s FBI agent arrives and kills Kevin. He then informs Bricke that Shelby is in danger.
But Bricke was having a hard time because of the API signal and also from the wounds he received when Kevin shot him. He lost the will to die and thus, decided to take the neurotoxin to commit suicide. However, the poison doesn’t kill the thief; instead, it breaks the effect of the API signal. Meanwhile, a fight broke between Shelby and Swayer, where Shelby eventually kills Swayer. She further destroyed the API facility but was at the gunpoint of FBI soldiers. But Bricke arrives at that moment, and the two escape. They escape to Canada with all the money, and both confess their love for each other. However, Bricke succumbs to his wounds. Later, Shelby escapes with the heist money and sister to start a fresh life.
