The Essex Serpent Season 1 Episode 3 saw another incident related to the serpent haunting the town. This time around, the people of the town had someone to blame. Last time on the show, Will believed that Cora’s vision towards the whole serpent situation might further help the children of the town. At the same time, ease the tension around.

So, Cora did take a class only to find herself lost when it came to answering the questions about the serpent the kids had. The kids believe she is hiding the fact that the serpent is coming for them. Soon Naomi went through a seizure, but kids believed she was summoning him as the episode came to a close. The third episode of The Essex Serpent sees the aftermath of what went down at school.

The Essex Serpent Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

Cora and Luke get along as Luke tries to push her passion once again. They also discover what went down with the fishermen. Also, the fact that the people of the town believe Cora is the reason the serpent is further reacting and coming at them.

Luke, on his side, introduced Cora to Hypnosis. They plan to experiment with this on Jo so that they can understand what she is feeling. With Stella’s consent, Luke performs Hypnosis on her. Jo reveals that she and Naomi were responsible for bringing the serpent as they were casting some sort of spell.

Wil interrupts the treatment and is not happy with what Luke is doing to his child. He almost attacks Luke. Cora intervened before he could do anything further. She was certainly not happy with Will’s behavior.

Cora later doubted if she was right when it came to performing hypnosis on Jo without asking Will. Cora tried to apologize but was stubborn, leading to an argument between Will and Cora. The episode closes with Cora and Will intimate with each other as Stella looks on from her house’s window.

The Essex Serpent Season 1 Episode 3 Review

The Essex Serpent Season 1 Episode 3, for the most part of the episode, continues to delve into the thought that there could be a rational explanation for this serpent’s story. That’s the foremost reason Cora invited Luke to join her. They spent time figuring out if there was a way to know what the children felt.

Luke recently had success making people believe that heart surgery is possible after he saved a life with that procedure. Similarly, he was hoping that Hypnosis is something that may work around here to get some answers.

Our Thoughts on The Essex Serpent Season 1 Episode 3

From The Essex Serpent Season 1 Episode 3 (Credits: Apple TV+)

For the first time around, the show delved into the supernatural side of things towards the ending, with Jo revealing that a spell summoned the serpent. How much of its truth is something the coming episodes may tell.

Meanwhile, the show has sowed seeds for people of the town to hate Cora. We already saw one of those examples during the funeral of Gracie. Now people are head-on, blaming her for everything related to the serpent, right from the incident in the classroom to what the fishermen saw.

At the same time, Cora and Will might have found themselves arguing over here. But they are growing close to each other, and we wonder how Stella would react to this in the next episode.
