Will horror shows ever go out of trend? Well, not unless people keep coming back to have their hearts pounding at the sight of grotesque beings. This brings us to one of the most appreciated Korean drama series of the year, Sweet Home. The show is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the earth has been taken over by monsters. Most of the show is set in an apartment building where many survivors are stuck. The series premiered on 18 December 2020 and concluded within ten episodes. Sweet Home ending explained many questions the viewers had but also gave rise to new questions in the end. The show was a big success, with many k-drama fans dropping in brilliant reviews in its support.
Sweet Home season 1 ended with quite a cliffhanger, and now fans are waiting in anticipation for the next. The show’s first season was directed by Lee Eung-bok, Jang Young-woo, and Park So-hyun. It is based on the webtoon by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-chan by the same name. The show has been developed by Studio Dragon. Sweet Home has amazing CGI and animation effects, along with an outstanding cast. Although the plot was quite amazing, the ending probably left many confused. Here is the Sweet Home ending explained as we take a walk through the season’s wonderful finale.
Sweet Home Season Finale
Hyun-Su takes Ui-myeong to the remaining survivors. On meeting them, the former introduces the latter as someone just like himself, which causes the survivors to relax. Ui-myeong comes to believe that humans and monsters cannot live together after killing the goo monster. Yu-ri has an asthma attack, seeing which, Sang-wook tries to take her outside. However, Ui-myeong stops them from doing so. He knows that the military will kill them should they go outside during Operation Golden Hour. This would not only put them in danger but also expose everyone else.
Hyun-Su does not hold them back, but the conflicting Ui-myeong ends up shooting two survivors. To stop him, Hyun-Su transforms into a monster. To calm his monstrous form, Du-Sik sacrifices himself. At the same time, Gil-seob dies in his sleep and is later buried. A secret tunnel is revealed. All the bodies of the dead survivors are buried as well.
Some time passes, and the military announces that the survivors will be taken to a safe camp. At the same time, they also ask the infected ones to surrender. Hyun-Su decides to talk to the military. However, another survivor causes a bomb blast that leads to the building’s collapse. Amidst this, Eun-hyeok dies too.
Sweet Home had an intriguing first season that gave a lot of space for the development of season 2. The first season’s cliffhanger was surprisingly satisfying, but it also left the viewers asking for more.
Sweet Home Ending Explained
The ending of Sweet Home season 1 is thrilling with great components of mystery. Using the secret tunnel, the survivors escape the collapsing building. Once they reach the surface, they are taken to the safety camps. Yi-Kyung enrolls in the military. He motivates the survivors to stay alive as well. Elsewhere, Hyun-Su is seen unconscious in a military truck, and in one scene, we also see Ui-myeong enter the military truck using his slime form. Along with Hyun-Su is Sang-wook in a military uniform. Hyun-Su wakes up in the final scene after an unknown amount of time skip. On seeing Sang-wook he recognizes that this is actually Ui-myeong in Sang-wook’s appearance.
Now that Ui-myeong has taken over Sang-wook’s body, the show opens up many possibilities. How Ui-myeong prefers to move ahead with his plan is currently unknown. Sweet Home’s dark setting gave the viewers nightmares as well as an adrenaline-rushing thrill. Waiting for a second season to learn about the aftermath is all we can do. The show’s plot was quite amazing and maintained with care. Although the plot was great, it would not have been such a big hit without the outstanding performances of Song Kang (Cha Hyun-Su), Lee Jin-Wook (Pyeon Sang-wook), Lee Si-young (Seo Yi-Kyung), and every other actor and actress involved.
