In this article, we cover Stillwater movie ending explained. Firstly, Stillwater is TomMcCarthy’s seventh film and will release on July 30, 2021. Furthermore, this dramatic crime thriller was produced by Steve Golin, Liza Chasin, Tom McCarthy, and Jonathan King. This movie features American actor Matt Damon, French actress Camille Cottlin and Abigail Breslin. On that point, this is Damon’s first work with McCarthy, as he was eager to work with him. Back to Stillwater, based on a true story, this is also a family story. Damon plays an American dad named Bill Baker, an oil-rig worker who travels to France from the heartland of the United States to visit his daughter after her incarceration from a murder.

If you’re here, you’re wondering what happened with the movie ending. Because it’s confusing. Consequentially, we must explain it. But first, did you know that this movie is somewhat loosely based on the infamous Amanda Knox case? Yes, that Amanda Knox you saw on Netflix the other day when you were too bored with the lockdowns and had nothing to do. Tom McCarthy’s American production shot in a location in France points to a sentimental take on the Knox affair. Still, McCarthy, an Academy Award winner for 2015”s Spotlight, has a lot to offer. Stillwater Movie Ending Explained

If we want to explain a movie ending, we have to explain the movie. Firstly, the narrative revolves around a father’s love and trust for his daughter. Bill Baker, a crude oil rig worker from Oklahoma, travels to Marseille, France to meet his daughter Allison, who has been arrested for the death of her roommate Lina. But there’s a twist to the story. The woman claims to have done no crimes. The murder of her friend Lina is thus not her responsibility and involvement. But later on, he finds that she has knackered all of her alternatives.

Bill Baker’s daughter Allison was convicted of the murder of her friend in Marseille. And Allison’s innocence moves her dad from Stillwater, Oklahoma, to France in the desperate search for clues so he can rescue her from prison. The similarities with Amanda Knox’s case are evident, the director acknowledges it. Still, Knox’s case was in Italy, and this one is in France. You see, right about the middle of the movie, the plot turns to something else because Bill Baker meets a kid and his mom and falls for them as they learn from each other. In the end, we don’t know what happens because all the events are left for your interpretation. It’s like when Anton Chigurh (played by Javier Bardem) leaves the house from No Country For Old Men. You kind of know but don’t know. Sometimes movies are just like that.

Stillwater movie ending explained will leave you confused

Stillwater movie ending will leave you confused because that’s entirely the point.

Stillwater deserves mixed opinions.

The directing is excellent. The narrative is excellent, as is the photography, and it receives an A+ on the film school report card. The story is entertaining, and the themes are thought-provoking. Of course, there are some moments in the middle where I’m like, okay, this is kind of dragging right? As I said, it all comes together in the end, but there were some pacing issues in the middle. Overall, Stillwater is an impressive film with a great cast and a very talented director. Shot on location with French and American actors, it delivers a good amount of in-depth tales of each protagonist with a well-defined story arc.

But criticism is either constructive or destructive, and while major film buzzes are ranting, raving, and sharing their thoughts on this production. Some moves give you a direct feel and buzz, others are more cerebral in their tone as they conclude. For the most part, Stillwater delivers an intimate look at each protagonist in two separate tales, one based on Amanda Knox’s tragic case and another of a man who finds a family as he lets go from the devils that haunt his past. Additionally, this movie debuted at Cannes Film Festival on July 8, 2021, and will premiere on July 30, 2021, in a Focus Features release.

Stillwater tells two stories, and Amanda Knox-inspired thriller and a flawed man finding a new family.

Let’s wrap this movie ending article covering Tom McCarthy’s Stillwater movie featuring Matt Damon and Abigail Breslin. Firstly, this movie is loosely based on the true story of Amanda Knox, a young woman who went to jail in Europe for a murder she didn’t commit. Secondly, the movie’s ending is kind of confusing because the story arc of this production morphs in the middle of the movie. From initially a story of a man in search of his estranged daughter, it ends up as a story of a man finding love and family after some really rough times. All in all, the movie’s cinematography and acting is great, but it’s the end that gets tricky. That’s all, thank you for reading.
