As said, he was a national hero, followed by a troubled life. When Steve Fonyo was just 12 years old, he lost his left leg to bone cancer. Regarding his education, he studied mechanics and aircraft maintenance at an early age. Steve Fonyo grabbed the limelight when he stepped into the shoes of the Canadian athlete, humanitarian, and cancer research activist Terrance Stanley Fox, who was simply known as Terry Fox.

Steve was the subject of Alan Zweig’s documentary film Hurt in 2015. Well, the full name of Steve Fonyo was Stephen Charles Fonyo Jr. He was born on 29th June 1965 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. And now after his death at the age of 56 in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, his family wants for his Order of Canada membership to be restored. According to them, they would only remember him as a hero!
Well, it would also be worth mentioning that earlier in 2015 too, he had suffered a near-death condition. It was the February of 2015 when his family and friends had reported that Steve Fonyo was in an induced coma in Royal Columbian Hospital. This was done after being stabbed by three home invaders who did that crime at his residence in Whalley, which is a neighborhood of Surrey. The severity of the case made doctors place him in a medically induced coma for a whole long month after the attack.
However, even after that, not everything was alright. Steve was suffering from a traumatic brain injury. Following this, he was prescribed medication to prevent any possible seizures. But his partner believes that he died after suffering a seizure.
