Space Force Season 2 Episode 1 Recap

The debut episode of the sophomore season kicks off with a dark tone. Under dramatic military horns, we see the cast member walking down an aisle as they must face an inquiry. It turns out that the Space Force is on trial, and they’re all put in a room, and F. Tony Scarapiducci won’t give up his phone due to his phone addiction. After he reluctantly drops his phone, General Naird faces a panel with a series of flashbacks as he hilariously faces off with General Grabaston over the Chinese lunar base attack from the last season.

Meanwhile, back in the waiting room, Dr. Chan and Major Ali are having an awkward moment as the latter isn’t digging the Chinese scientist’s advances anymore. Later on, Gen. Grabaston wants Naird’s head. And F. Tony is having a fit because he does not have his phone. When it’s Dr. Mallory’s turn, the well-spoken and educated doctor trash-talks the military, comparing them to neanderthals, and that upsets the head of the panel, and political correctness-laden jokes come kicking in.

The Hearing Goes On

One by one, each of the members of the rank and file of the Space Force is deposed of their testimonies before the committee. Firstly General Bradley denies locking Grabaston in the restroom, and when confronted with the evidence, he hilariously denies it and questions that the restrooms have video cameras. Secondly, F. Tony’s turn makes a great pitch deck for Naird. Thirdly, Erin Naird spills the beans on his father’s sleep routine, cringing everybody in the room.

After Erin takes the stand, the hearing takes a break. And the Space Force spends some time doing some chair hallway races. When it’s Erin’s turn to challenge General Naird to the race, he wins the match, and then he moves in to hear the verdict. After being heavily scolded, he and his group are all absolved. Still, his Force’s budget is dramatically cut. So, he must do whatever he can muster to stay on top. Naird is puzzled on why he’s let go. So, he asks Mallory about it, and Mallory explains that’s he’s just lucky, but it turns out that everybody spoke so highly of him that they convinced the examination board.
