What is Soul Hackers 2?
The fans of Shin Megami Tensei got a surprise from the developers regarding the spin-off game in the franchise Soul Hackers. In February 2022, Atlus announced something mysterious for Soul Hackers.
Many speculations were going around like a remake of the original game released in 1999 or a sequel. The one that came true was a sequel called Soul Hackers 2. What should fans expect from this sequel? Is this a direct sequel to the first game?
Plot
The plot of Soul Hackers takes place in the 21st Century. Soul Hackers’ story occurs during a war between two Devil Summoners factions, Yatagarasu and Phantom Society.
The players will take the role of an “Aion” supernatural being named Ringo. The story will also follow another Aion named Figue. Though Figue will only be a supporting character, helping from the sidelines. Figue and Ringo descend into the human world to avoid a prophesized cataclysmic event. This event is said to be the end of humanity if not averted.
Gameplay
Soul Hackers is a role-playing game, just like its predecessor and mainline entries, Shin Megami Tensei. The game combat takes place in turn-based battles, where a party of four characters battles enemies. The players can use physical as well as magical attacks against the enemy. The magical attacks include summoned demons that perform elemental attacks. The successful exploitation of the enemies enables the players to use a special skill called Demon Sabbath. Demon Sabbath, upon activation, will target the weakened enemies with enormous damage.
The game, outside the combat, will allow the players to freely control the protagonist, Ringo, where they can roam the city. Just like the Persona series, Ringo will enter shops where she can purchase and equip armors, weapons, and clothes. Communication with friends and party members is also one feature taken directly from Persona games. One of the important aspects of this free control will be engaging with the allies to strengthen the bonds. With a great bond, the special and unique ability will unlock that can help in combats.
