It’s been almost two years since the announcement of the fifth installment of the Shrek series. Dubbed as Shrek 5, the movie has been on a lot of waiting lists since 2016. With the lack of new trailer or news, fans are wondering if the fifth movie is still coming or is it canceled. Here’s everything we know about Shrek 5.
Shrek 5 first key visual and the release date was announced as early as June 15, 2016. This is after NBCUniversal purchased DreamWorks Animation for $3.8 billion. The Shrek franchise, among other franchises, was planned to be revived in the next few years. But after two years, there has been no news or new materials except the fact that the script was finished.
According to Cinemablend, Eddie Murphy stated that Shrek producer Jeffrey Katzenberg told him the release date of the Shrek 5 movie might be on 2019 or 2020. The movie also got a finished script already, so it is likely that the hardest and most tedious part (which is the animation) is currently on-going. Most top-notched animated movies are done within two to four years, so 2020 is not an odd possibility for a release date. Hopefully, we can have official trailers in as early as this year. It is enough to confirm that Shrek 5 is still happening, just delayed for two years more than the expected 2018.
Shrek 5 Story And Cast
There is still no confirmed trailer, storyline, and new actors for this movie. However, the cast from the old movies is expected to come back for the fifth and last installation of the franchise. Mike Myers is expected to reprise his character as Shrek. Eddie Murphy is expected to play Donkey one last time. However, Cameron Diaz might not be reprising her role as Fiona because or her retirement in acting.
