Show trial started airing on BBC and is one of the newest murder mysteries of the channel. When it comes to this particular genre, no matter how many series of films we get, they will never be enough. The story of Showtrial starts with the character named Hannah Ellis. This child is murdered at the University. The whole case is quite mysterious and keeps the investigating officers on their toes regarding who killed Hannah. The series started airing on BBC One on the 31st of October 2021.
At the same point in time, all episodes dropped down at once for the fans on BBC iPlayer. This enabled the fans to either follow the air schedule or watch the series at their own pace. Well, if you are someone who has yet not watched the end of the show, I suggest that you stop right here because some of the obvious spoilers unfold down below. As for the fans who have already finished the drama, I can understand if you did not grasp the concept of the concluding moments of this series fully. Now, let us talk about the show and its plot first.
Show trial is a new series that is all about the murder mystery of a sophomore student named Hannah Ellis studying in the university. The police are set upon the case and try to break down the suspects for the murder. Two people are already shortlisted by the investigating officers. These two students, however, come out to be highly unlikely to kill Hannah. The first one is the daughter of a very wealthy property developer named Talitha Campbell and the second one is Dhillon Harwood, the son of a shadow cabinet minister. This creates a cycle of tremendous amounts of plot twists and well turns along with various mind games.
The police are trying their best in order to gather the full evidence which will then be used in the court of law. Talitha and Dhillon still have not slipped the mind of the police as they have been friends with Hannah for years and were even present on the night of her murder. Now, Talitha is in the center of the mystery because later it was revealed that Hannah and she were close friends. Their relationship took a downfall when they both developed feelings for Professor Vendler. Vendler had a secret affair with Talitha and even confided in her about how Hannah complained to him about Dhillon stalking her. He thought he was the one who caused this stir in Hannah’s life and killed himself out of guilt.
Then Dr. Vendler’s wife comes forth in order to reveal a letter that says that Talitha had a fantasy about killing another girl while having intercourse. There are many shreds of evidence against Talitha given the fact that it was her scarf through which Hannah was killed. Hannah’s rucksack was also found on her bracelet which she wore on the night of the murder. Talitha comes forth and admits that she had a bitter relationship with Hannah but that does not mean she killed her. On the night of the murder, she says she fell asleep at home after getting very drunk at the university ball.
Show trial Ending Explained
When Dhillon was questioned, he claims that he has no part in the whole scene except for the fact that he saw Talitha strangling Hannah with the scarf during one of their physical games which went wrong. Dhillon always had feelings for Hannah which she never gave back and even reported to the professor. He looked all the more guilty when the details of his story kept on changing and he was even found burning his clothes from the night as well as the scarf in the woods.
During the conclusion of the series, we finally found out that it was Dhillon who killed Hannah. His motive was the fact that if he can not have her, then nobody can. He even has abused his previous girlfriends and it all came down during the trials. During the concluding moments, there was a brief time when Talitha admits that it was actually her behind the whole killing and she is now going to Paris. But this comment is passed off as a joke.
