Every aspiring filmmaker is embracing it right now. All thanks to Netflix bringing in the short stories of one of the greatest Indian directors Satyajit Ray to life. Ray, A Netflix Original anthology has adapted four of these stories. With the star power led by some of the most established and talented actors in the OTT space, the show is an all-out treat to cinema lovers. We have Manoj Bajpayee, Kay Kay Menon, Ali Fazal, and Harshvardhan Kapoor in leads after all. The story was a no doubt, the actors filled in perfectly as well. So after the first ride, should we expect another in the form of Ray Season 2? Let’s find out.
Ray Season 1 might have or might have not clicked with you. Anyway, it was great to watch such a unique set of stories. Forget Me Too saw Ispit Rama Nair carrying his eidetic memory in pride which in turn is used against him. Then we had makeup artist Indrashish Shah in Bahurupiya using his grandmother’s makeup secrets to an extent where his identity is ruined. Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa sees Musafir Ali overcoming his guilt. Lastly, Spotlight sees a popular actor Vikram Arora seeing his popularity fade away in front of a religious figure named Didi. Each story had its tone. Now, let’s find out will we have more of it.
Will There Be Ray Season 2?
Probably Yes, Probably Not, that’s what we are betting on. Ray is an intricate anthology show bringing critically acclaimed director Satyajit Ray’s short stories to life. These were only four of the stories that came to life this season on Ray. So there are so many which could have room for an adaptation, that is, if Ray Season 2 were to come to life. But the thing is, it will all depend on Netflix at the end of the day. Plus their decision on whether a season 2 for Ray interests them or not. So coming down to the main point it will depend on how good the show does and how the audiences perceive it.
How good the show does? By that, we mean viewership. Something Netflix takes quite a note of even if the show doesn’t work a lot with critics. There is always room for a second chance on which the show can thrive for. Something Ray needs at the moment. Now our second point about how the audiences perceive the show. The stories Ray tells are fine art and something to look at. But their adaptation into episodes didn’t work much. Many have criticized the series for lack of the touch that Satyajit Ray had for his movies and filmmaking. So it’s something Ray can work on in the second season.
To achieve everything mentioned above, this month, the first season of Ray needs to attract enough viewership. Something that can keep the show afloat at least for a while. Because that’s what Netflix does. They observe the show for the first month before moving to renewal plans. We can have another season if Satyajit Ray fans are still in for more stories. So let’s see how it goes.
Ray Season 2 Release Date and What To Expect?
At the moment, Netflix has not officially announced if they are having any plans to renew Ray for a Season 2. All we know is, there is an abundant source of Satyajit Ray’s short stories. Something that can be adapted for another set of four episodes of Ray Season 2. So in case, everything works out as mentioned above, we can expect Ray Season 2 to hit the OTT screens around the same time next year in June or in late 2022.
We may have new actors, and more intriguing stories altogether. Considering the big names that join the show like Manoj Bajpayee, Ali Fazal, Harshvardhan Kapoor, and Kay Kay Menon. The release date may stumble according to the shoot schedules. If the show plans to bring in more big names in the lead. The first season was full of four different tales. First, we had to Forget Me Not where an individual’s biggest trait was used for revenge by an enemy. Then Bahuripiya showed us how an obsession can hurt us. Then Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa was a guilt tale while Spotlight was all supernatural. So expect much more intriguing tales as there are abundant Satyajit Ray short stories. Until then, stream the first season of Ray on Netflix.
