SHINee’s Don’t Call Me‘s and Taemin’s Success.

SHINee is currently bathing in the success after their recent music video for their comeback album, Don’t Call Me, garnered major praise, and Taemin’s comeback into the world of Kdrama OST is basically a cherry on the top for Shawols. Recently in an interview with South China Morning Post, they talked about how it was like to bounce back from their 3-year-old hiatus. The group talked about how badly they wanted to try something new, to fit into “today’s genres and musical mood,” and how they wanted to give the best of what they have to their fans – lucky us! – who have been waiting for three years for them.

Don't Call Me

As for Taemin, he has also proved himself as a soloist. His song, Criminal, from his album Never Gonna Dance Again: Act 1, had taken the world by storm. Watching him say, “Destroy me more,” in his studded eye-patch and leather ensemble was enough for fans to get a metaphorical heart-attack. Not only that, but he also gave us a glimpse of his cinematic vision and just how he is never afraid of trying new things. SM entertainment was not wrong in naming the “The Ace of Aces.

Two people, who are very different in age, but share the same love for dancing, for ballet. The name of the drama, “Navillera,” means the metaphor which conveys the appearance of a flying butterfly. It revolves around the lives of seventy-year-old Sim Deok-Chool (Park In-Hwan), who had a lifelong dream of performing as a ballet dancer, and that of Lee Chae-Rok (Song Kang), who is twenty-three years old, and his dreams of becoming a ballet dancer is slowly fading away.

Deok-Chool was born during the time of the Korean War. Though he had an immense interest in ballet, he had to give up on his dreams to help and sustain his family. After he retires from his job as a post-office employee, he joins a ballet class. Chae-Rok’s dance entrances and inspires him to try for his dream one more time. Chae-Rok, on the other hand, had tried his hands at many sports, but to no avail. In the end, he follows his mother’s footsteps and tries out ballet – and likes it. But due to major financial and emotional problems, his desire to dance is fading. Thus, it begins a wonderful story about how a seventy-year-old student helps his teacher, who is in his twenties, find enjoyment in ballet again.

This Kdrama is adapted from the Webtoon of the same name. The cast couldn’t have been more perfect! There are two veteran actors Park In-Hwan and Na Moon Hee, playing the roles of Deok-Chul and his wife, Hae-Nam. It is interesting to note that these two are regarded as “national treasures” of Korean Dramas. Song Kang himself is still in praise for his marvelous acting in Sweet Home and is the reason for the tears of every other fangirl who was waiting for Love Alarm Season 2 to arrive. In my opinion, this Kdrama will obviously be a hit amongst people of all ages!

This is SHINee’s Taemin’s 4th Kdrama OST, his first release after 6 long years. He also sang for “To The Beautiful You,” a 2012 Kdrama starring fellow member Minho, for the 2014 Kdrama “Prime Minister and I,” and the beautiful duet with late fellow member Jonghyun for “Who Are You.”
