‘Shaman King’ is a Japanese manga comic series. This adventurous and supernatural manga comic was written and created by Hiroyuki Takei in 1998. ‘Shaman King’ received an Anime adaptation of the manga comic series in 2001. Almost a decade later, in 2020, it was reported that an Anime television and web series based on the new manga comic series was created in 2004. The new Anime adaption was scheduled to be released in the month of April 2021.
The first episode of ‘Shaman King’ (2021) premiered on the 1st of April. Directed by Joji Furuta, the Anime series broadcasted on television channels such as TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TSC, TVh, TVQ, BS TV Tokyo, TXN, and many more! ‘Shaman King’ (2021) also aired on certain online platforms. The opening theme song of the Anime television and web series is called “Soul Salvation,” and the ending theme song is called “Boku No Yubisaki,” which means ‘my fingertip.’ Both of the songs are being performed by Hayashibara.

A Shaman is a person who is the bridge between the world of spirits and the world of the living. Yoh Asakura was a shaman and also the main protagonist of ‘Shaman King.’ Yoh wished to be the Shaman King of his village. A Shaman King is someone who can mold the world according to their will. They can also communicate with the Great Spirit. To acquire the position of the Shaman King, shamans all over the world fight each other in order to find out who is the strongest of all. The one who is able to last becomes the Shaman King. This violent competition takes place once every 500 years.
Yoh’s fiancé was very supportive of him wanting to be a Shaman King. Her name was Anna Kyoyama. To make sure that he wins the competition, Anna would encourage him by making him train hard. On his path of making his dream come true, Yoh encounters a bunch of people. Some become his friends, and some become his foes. Yoh even met his twin brother, whom he no longer was in contact with. Yoh’s brother’s name was Hao Asakura. Hao was an evil person and a very powerful shaman. He wished to destroy mankind and wanted the shamans to take over the world.
At the end of the Shaman King competition, it was revealed that Hao had become the Shaman King. When Hao was becoming one with the Great Spirit, he was attacked by his brother. Nonetheless, it was of no use as Hao defeats Yoh and his friends the moment he regains his composure. Later, it was revealed that Hao wanted to speak to his mother’s spirit, and this wish was granted by the Great Spirit. His mother tells Hao that if he wanted to be rescued, he would have to forgive the people who brutally murdered her. Hao then decides to let Yoh, Anna, and his team of people help make the world a better place to live in. It is understood that his thirst to demolish humankind has still not been quenched.
The ‘Shaman King’ (2001) series ends with the scene of a little boy, about six to seven years old. He was at the train station, waiting for his parents to come home. His name was Hana Asakura.

Review and recap of ‘Shaman King’ (2021), Episode 1.
The first episode of ‘Shaman King’ (2021) is titled “The Boy Who Dances with Ghosts” and was released on the 1st of April. Fear dawns upon the world again as Hao Asakura is back! Hao was reincarnated as a newborn child when a woman gives birth to twins. The child then kills his entire family and runs away. Nobody knows what happens to the child.
More than a decade later, a boy named Manta Oyamada comes across the famous shaman, Yoh Asakura. They met each other when Manta was passing by a graveyard. Manta gets bullied by a boy named Ryu. Ryu was extremely violent. He even broke down Amidamaru’s (a late samurai) grave. Yoh helps Manta by letting Amidamaru’s soul take over his body. He then fights Ryu, and in the course of time, Yoh and Manta become good friends. Amidamaru also decides to become Yoh’s partner. The episode concludes by letting the audience know that an unknown Shaman was looking over Amidamaru and Yoh.
The viewers are extremely hyped up about the new remake of ‘Shaman King.’ They are invigoratingly waiting for the plot of ‘Shaman King’ 2021 to change its course from the 2001 version. The manga comic series went on for a few more years after the 2001 ‘Shaman King’ ended. The fans cannot wait to see all those action-based scenes and major character development that they have read about come alive on the big screens!
