Record of Ragnarok Anime – What To Expect?

Record of Ragnarok

Record of Ragnarok, an anime about mythical beasts, Gods, and humans. Recently at the Tokyo AnimeJapan Expo of 2021, Netflix announced that it would be releasing 40 new titles. This would include The Way of The Household, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, Yasuke, and Record of Ragnarok. While all these anime adaptations are absolute musts to look forward to, the Record of Ragnarok stands out because of its genre and concept. The manga was written by Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui and illustrated by Ajichika. It was first released in 2017 under Coamix’s seinen manga magazine Monthly Comic Zenon. The adaptation production is taken up by Graphinica, famous for various Hellsing OVAs and the movie Hello World.

The series is slated to be produced by Warner Bros. and will be directed by Masao Okubo. Everything from the release to the opening and ending themes of the anime has been fixed and confirmed. With so much information available online, it can get difficult to filter the important details. Let’s talk about the plot, release date, and trailer of Record of Ragnarok.

Adam from Record of Ragnarok

Record of Ragnarok is centered in a world where gods convene every 1000 years to decide humanity’s fate. After having existed for ages, the council of gods decides that humans are irredeemable. They convene and, after discussing matters, decide to exterminate humanity as a whole. However, the Valkyrie Brunhild, played by Miyuki Sawashiro (famous for Celty in Durarara!! and Kurapika in Hunter x Hunter), convinces the gods to think otherwise. The gods hear Brunhild out and decide to give humanity one final chance.

The battle of Ragnarok has always been a famous topic. In the original myths, it is a battle between the gods and the Frost Giants. In the anime, however, the gods propose a different plan. They give humanity a condition. 13 fiercest fighters from all of history will duel against gods in the arena. They will be given Valkyries to assist them with their fights which will also transform into magical weapons. However, if a human dies, so will the Valkyrie. Equipped with these weapons, humans finally have a chance of defeating the gods, but will they really win?

The anime will be interesting because of the historical figures included in the fights. The manga includes Adam, the first man on Earth, and Lu Bu, and other tyrannical rulers from the past. The battle between Adam and Zeus will be inevitable and certainly a symbolical feast for the eyes to watch. It will also feature deities from various cultures and religions. The manga has previously shown Shiva, from Hindu religion and mythology among the many. So it will certainly be interesting to see what other additions we get in the cast of Record of Ragnarok.

Record of Ragnarok Anime Release Date

Record of Ragnarok will be released in June 2021. The trailer for Record of Ragnarok is already out. As expected, it shows us many quick instances of battles in the arena—the theme of God Vs. Man is what they’re giving all of their focus to. We can see various fighters going off against gods with all they can. Biblical imagery is also quite visible, with Adam literally eating an apple and calling it sore. The anime also recreates The Creation of Adam Fresco’s painting done by Michelangelo on Sistine Chappell’s ceiling. The scene is straight from the Book of Genesis, and it can be said that the anime will definitely be culturally rich with all the biblical references. It looks like it will be a big mix of the Japanese culture, Roman-Catholic traditions as well as the obvious Greek mythology that it has as its center.

Netflix had announced the Record of Ragnarok’s release date after the stellar success of their other myth-based anime, Blood of Zeus. Though no specific date has been revealed yet, we do know that the Record of Ragnarok adaptation will be out in June 2021. That is less than 6 months away for the fans who have read and enjoyed the manga already. The show is a Netflix original, so there is little chance of it being available on Crunchyroll or Funimation. So, we suggest you get a Netflix subscription to enjoy the Record of Ragnarok and all the other 39 anime Netflix will be launching soon.
