Ragnarok is a Norwegian fantasy drama TV series that has been inspired by Norse mythology. This is a coming-of-age show that builds upon Norse mythology while also bringing in a unique perspective to topics such as climate change. The show itself takes place in a fictional town set in Norway known as Edda, Hordaland. Here we see the conflict between the public and the corporates as industrial services are leading to pollution. And this has caused the climate to change, thus focusing on the 1% of rich people who benefit from all of it. Now that a new trailer has been dropped for the upcoming season, let’s take a look at Ragnarok Season 2 Release Date.
Ragnarok Season 1 followed the story of a 17-year-old high school boy named Magne. He has just found out that he was not just an ordinary kid, but the embodiment of Thor, the Norse God. But now he must face enemies that also possess powers originating from ancient myths. The truth is, the corporate family, Jutul has the whole town under their siege. The industrial pollution caused by their factories has started to cause climate changes within the town. And while on the outside they are the fifth-richest family in Norway, they happen to be the embodiment of the four Jötnar. So, thus we witness the battle between Thor and the Jötnars as one seeks to protect the world while the other wants to destroy it.
Ragnarok Season 2 Release Date
Ragnarok Season 2 is set to be released on 27th May 2021, on Netflix. All six episodes of Ragnarok Season 1 were released back on 31st January 2020. This Norse mythic show performed exceptionally well as it managed to maintain a perfect balance between the mythic and the contemporary storyline. This led the show to be ranked 5th on Netflix UK while being placed 6th on Netflix US. So, considering that season 1 was left at a cliffhanger, it was no huge surprise that Netflix gave the thumbs up for the second season. In March 2020, Ragnarok was announced to be renewed for a second season. This was done through several Netflix social media accounts. But later, COVID-19 shutdowns caused the filming for the second season to be delayed.
Luckily, the production was finally able to begin back in September 2020. Thus setting the release date much farther than one would have anticipated. Nevertheless, in mid-April Netflix revealed that Ragnarok Season 2 would be one of the shows to be released in May. Later on 18th April, it was revealed that Ragnarok Season 2 is set to be released on 27th May 2021. Lastly, we got two new trailers for the same within the past week. These trailers have got an immense number of viewers, and all there is to do is, wait till the 27th of May.
What Will be the Plot for Ragnarok Season 2?
The ending of Ragnarok Season 1 ended with the fight between Magne and Vidar. Here Magne summons lightning to come down and strike his opponent. While we do know that Magne is alright, we have no clue about Vidar. And reportedly, Ragnarok Season 2 will pick up from just where it was left off. So, here we may learn what became of Vidar, did he survive the lightning? We will also learn how the possible end to the fight affects the Jutuls and the city of Edda.
Meanwhile, we have started to see how Magne has started to accept his role as the second coming of the Norse God, Thor. He has started to cultivate his superhuman abilities, which only makes him wonder if there are more people like him. Over the course of Ragnarok Season 1, we have seen Magne’s brother Laurits be hinted to be actually Loki. It could be possible that we see Laurits tap into his Norse powers in the upcoming season. Even the press release for Season 2 hinted at how Laurits was quite exceptional as he viewed from a different perspective to that of Magne. In the next season, we will see more about the siblings’ relationship and how it affects future conflicts and choices.
