We’re down to the second to the last episode of Overlord season 3. In this season, it is revealed that Ainz made “world domination” his focus, and his subordinates are all willing to do anything to reach their master’s goal. After the upcoming Re-Estize Kingdom and Baharuth Empire fight, will Ainz push forward for his plan as Sorcerer King Ainz Ooal Gown? Will we get Overlord Season 4?
Overlord Season 4 Possibility
Since season 1 to the current season, the anime has been faithfully adapting the Overlord light novel which is written by Kugane Maruyama. This season has been adapting volumes 7, 8, and 9. With two episodes remaining, fans can’t help to wonder if Overlord season 4 is possible. However, things are not that simple for this light novel and the anime.
The complication stems out to the way things are shown in the light novel. The light novel shows events not in chronological order, unlike the anime, which tries to achieve it for clarity. Because of this, earlier episodes of season 3 was actually from volume 8, and the latter came from volume 7 and 9. Another factor is because the Volume 10 (which happens to be the supposed start of Overlord season 4) is very different from the Light Novel and the Web Novel (which is the original source). We can’t also rely on the manga for material because it is far behind even the anime adaptation.
Overlord Season 4 Release Date
Last but not the least is because of the availability of material for the anime adaptation. So far, the anime succeeded in adapting three volumes per season. However, it is also worthy to take account of how long the materials would be in anime form versus the novel form. Some Volumes are enough for an arc while two volumes are needed for one arc. If they decided to animate volume 10, 11, and 12 right now for Overlord Season 4, then there’s no material left for Overlord season 5 to be produced regularly. Volume 14 is expected to be released in 2019, but it might slip to 2020 because of Kugane’s other works. To make things short, we might wait longer for season 5 if we get season 4 early because there’s only one volume released per year.
So are we getting Overlord Season 4? Well, the answer right now is…maybe. If they decided to animate the available materials right now, the interest for the next season and the whole series might drop because of a long time of waiting. Also, this is Madhouse that we’re talking about, no one knows if another season would arrive unless they confirm it. But if we’re getting an Overlord season 4, then it would be logical to assume that we’re getting it in 2020 at the earliest.
