“The Rookie” season 4 episode 10 will release after a hiatus due to the Christmas season. Following the hiatus will be the upcoming episode, titled “Heart Beat”, which will give us a much-needed follow-up on where Nolan and Bailey’s relationship will go now that her husband has come into the picture. The ending of episode 9 came as a surprise for both Nolan and the viewers alike. The ending also poses several questions that need answers. Unfortunately, we don’t have any way to get those answers until the next episode arrives in the new year.

Episode 10 of “The Rookie” Season 4 will release on January 2, 2021. The upcoming episode will pick up from the shocking ending of episode 9. At the end of the last episode, we to Nolan, and to our surprise, we found out that Bailey has a husband. This surprising twist entails a couple of problems, some of them can be big depending on how Nolan and Bailey work it out. While Nolan really loves Bailey and the vice-versa being true as well, Bailey’s husband poses some problems.
Why hasn’t she mentioned him to Nolan so far? Does she still have feelings for her husband, who seems to have been locked up inside either a prison or maybe some other facility? However, it could also be something else entirely. Nolan would have to contend with this new development and figure out where his relationship with Bailey goes from here. Meanwhile, the team will be working on determining the cause of a plane that crashes in the middle of the city.

The Rookie Season 4 Episode 9 Recap
Episode 9 opens with Nolan checking out rings for when he eventually proposes to Bailey. However, that’s not why he was in a jewelry store, he was there with Lucy to arrest a burglar. Lucy takes notice of Nolan and gets excited when she finds out he’s looking to propose to his girlfriend. She then tells him to do something special when he finally proposes. This involves an extravagant affair, with an expensive venue and something extra to precede the proposal. Even the burglar agrees. However, Nolan isn’t too keen on the extravaganza. He just wants to take Bailey out to a nice restaurant and pop the question. He later asks Harper if an extravagant proposal is necessary. Harper says it’s not but also that he should not go with what Lucy or she has to say about how his proposal should be. Nolan agrees.
Nolan Tries to Introduce Bailey & Henry
Meanwhile, Bailey’s injuries have healed and now she’s ready to hop on work abs help Nolan out with housework as well. Nolan wants her to not exert herself just yet but Bailey says she’s alright now. Off she goes to work, before getting the chance to talk to Henry. Nolan has been wanting her and Henry to meet each other and get to know each other before he moves ahead with the proposal. However, since Henry’s in Japan for all Christmas and Bailey’s started to work, it’s difficult.
Nolan later tries to introduce them to each other via video calling. However, poor network on Henry’s end and Bailey’s work calls ruin the session before it could even begin. Nolan doesn’t have to worry for too long, though. Later in the episode, he finds Bailey talking to Henry through video calling. They seem to get along super well and Henry approves of Bailey. Nolan is happy and also ready to finally pop the question.
The Ending Reveal
At the ending of episode 9, Nolan tells Bailey he loves her, she tells him she does too. However, before Nolan could go ahead with the proposing part, a twist seemingly dampens the atmosphere. A man arrives and he seems to be related to Bailey. She recognizes him instantly and asks “when did they let you out?” We get the sense he might have been in prison or some other facility and recently got out. He asks Nolan who he is and Nolan replies he’s Bailey’s boyfriend. Nolan is shocked when he asks the man back who he is and he says he’s Bailey’s husband.
Wesley’s Undercover Job & Elijah’s Arrest
Meanwhile, Wesley has been assigned the risky task of planting a listening device inside Elijah’s room. He goes in with an excuse of some lawyer advice and the team distracts Elijah with a fake chase down outside his office. Meanwhile, Welsey plants the device successfully. However, despite Wesley’s crafty work, the plan gets ruined because the team forgot that Elijah’s men used walkie-talkies to communicate. The bug interferes with the walkie-talkies and Elijah picks up on it.
The clever man quickly deduces what’s going on and finds the bug. He then taunts Angela and others saying he knows they are outside. Grey enters his office to take Wesley back, warning Elijah of going after Wesley and Lopez. Later on, the team finds out that Elijah runs a drug business and they bust it out. Getting an arrest warrant, they head out to detain Elijah only to find a messy scene left by a shootout. Elijah comes out of a cupboard and tells them it was Abril. She came back for revenge and wiped out his gang. Wesley and Lopez are given advanced security and Abril calls Lopez to tell her it’s goodbye if she doesn’t come after her.
Bradford’s Finds A Gun
On the other hand, Bradford and Chen are helping out Genny with the renovation when Bradford discovers an old gun hiding behind one of the walls. He asks Chen to accompany him to the station to run a ballistic check on the gun. Genny is upset that he’s found another excuse to get out but he says it’s important. The ballistics check reveals that the gun was used for murder and the victim was a man called Frank. The reports say that Frank was killed during a home invasion.
However, Bradford knows that’s not true. He realizes that it was his father who killed Frank, who lived in the house directly in front of theirs. Chen is not sure but Bradford tells her that his father had an affair with Frank’s wife, so he had a motive. They bring in Frank’s widow for questioning and the questions start to discomfort her. She immediately leaves when she sees Bradford who says she’s protecting his father by not answering. Later, Bradford goes to finally meet his father, who’s in hospital in a decrepit state.
Bradford Meets His Father
Bradford confronts his father about Frank’s death. At first, his father declines but when Bradford tells him he knew of his affair with Frank’s wife, his father stands up and admits his crime. However, he was just protecting Frank’s wife who was the actual killer. She killed him because he was abusive, a fact that Bradford’s father points out when stating why he protected her. Bradford gets angry at the painful irony of his abusive father talking about another abusing individual. Bradford says his last goodbye to his father and goes to his sister, apologizing for not being there to help her out.
