The Family Plan follows Mark Wahlberg, who used to be a government operative, and he’s kind of holding on to this secret that his family has no idea about. His wife even has gone so far as to mention that he’s very boring. He’s not spontaneous. And, of course, he’s had this whole past life where he was very much the opposite of that.
Dan’s kids are teenagers, plus he has a baby as well, and all of a sudden, he is found out again because of social media, which I think is very interesting because they tie in the social media aspect of it.
Dan must take his family away, and they think they’re going on a family vacation. But no, he is just trying to run away from these people and get them new lives. Of course, craziness ensues, and this movie is very much action and comedy mixed together.

The Family Plan Review
As a son, there’s a lot of stuff I could relate to that the kids were going through with their parents. My siblings are all teenagers and boy, oh boy, they are addicted to their devices. And everyone in the family in this movie kind of has their own secret skills, which I found to be a really fun aspect of it as well. Things that the rest of the family didn’t know about, and then maybe they had to come together and use all these secret skills.
There’s also a lot of gaming references. There’s a heavy subplot of gaming and the gaming community in here, and I love gaming. So, for me, that was very exciting to see, and I kind of enjoyed all the gaming references and gaming things that were going on as well. This movie is fun, and there are some really great action sequences; it’s exactly, I guess, what I expected of it, and the cast is great.
There’s a joke about the name Van, which was actually in the script already, but the actor’s real name is Van. I found that to be really funny, especially since I have to deal with that joke. I would have been like, can we change the name to something else? But it feels like fate, and it’s kind of perfect that he got the role.
I thought it was fun, I thought it was a blast, I thought the action was great, I laughed out loud a few times, and I found it to be very sweet as well, with great messages about family and coming together. And I do really enjoy the whole thing, like, “Hey, let’s have a dinner or a moment or a road trip, where we put our devices away and just connect with each other.”
The Family Plan Filming Locations
Filming started in October 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia. The capital and largest city of Georgia, Atlanta is the 38th most populated city in the United States and is home to a National Historic Site and the Georgia Aquarium.
The crew visited several Atlantan streets and communities to film The Family Plan. Several television shows and films, such as Scream 2, Strays, Reptile, Pain Hustlers, What Men Want, They Cloned Tyrone, etc., found Atlanta to be an excellent place to film.
You’ll notice glimpses of Buffalo, New York, done by helicopter in the film. The crew was on location filming these parts in November 2022.
The city of Canton was chosen for the filming because it is roughly forty miles north of downtown Atlanta. Specifically, a car dealership and a neighborhood ice cream store were transformed into Lambert’s Diner, a restaurant that you would recognize from the film, for a few of the scenes.
It was inevitable that a significant amount of action would be shot in Sin City because Vegas was our cast members’ final destination. Nonetheless, you will be able to identify a few famous spots, like the Hoover Dam in Black Canyon, as well as the Strat Hotel, the Bellagio Hotel, and the Casino Tower.
Actor Mark Wahlberg flew to Las Vegas in February 2023 to film some key sequences at The STRAT resort. The STRAT Hotel is a three-star hotel in Las Vegas. The movie also features sequences at the Bellagio Fountain, or there’s an aerial shot that appears to be of the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas. The Bellagio Fountain is a beautiful spot near Paradise, Nevada.
