Netflix continues to attract the attention of the anime fans as it continues to announce new anime. The latest acquisition is the Evangelion is one of the all time classics. Netflix has confirmed that Evangelion will be streamed on their platform. The announcement was made during its Anime Lineup Presentation event. So, Hideaki Anno and Gainax’s Neon Genesis Evangelion anime and the Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth and Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion films, are to be streamed next spring globally.
However, in the announcement didn’t reveal whether or not the orginal English dub from the ADV Films will be included.
Netflix describes the anime:
A.D. 2015. Tokyo 3 is under attack by powerful creatures known as the Angels. The protagonist, Shinji Ikari, is chosen to pilot the Humanoid Decisive Weapon Evangelion — the only way for humanity to fight against the Angels. The battle for the fate of humanity starts now. What exactly are the Angels? What fate awaits the young pilots and humanity itself?
As I already said said that the anime series is one of the most influential works in the history of anime. However, it has remained for a print for a long time. The last release by ADV Films was the “Platinum Edition” DVDs in 2004 and 2005. The company shut down in 2009.
The franchises has also inspired several spinoffs, merchandises. It has even got collaborations. Anno, the director of the anime founded Studio Khara in 2006. The studio was producing new tetralogy of film, which were titled, Rebuild of Evangelion. It reinterprets the events which have taken place in the series.
The first of these was Evangelion: 1.0 You Are [Not] Alone in 2007, which was followed by Evangelion: 2.0 You Can [Not] Advance and finally Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo in 2009 and 2012, respectively. Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban :|| (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0), the final film, is currently in production.
