Netflix May 2021 Release Schedule: All New Movies And TV Shows

A new month arrives with new expectations and, of course, new content in turn, for the past few years and especially in the time of the pandemic, which resulted in Lockdown and increases in streaming numbers. The OTT platforms have geared themselves up to bring in the most amount of content possible to make their name and break their game in the online streaming space. While the new and already existing platforms do their best, the oldest player in the game has not backed down yet either. Netflix still remains one of the top OTT platforms to turn to despite the completion, and it will continue its expansion in May.

From classic films like Back To The Future Trilogy and Resident Evil: Extinction to brand new Netflix Orignal films such as Zack Snyder’s Army of Dead and Amy Addams starring The Woman In The Window. From animated classics like The Land Before Time to Netflix Orginal animation Love, Deaths and Robots. Plus, of course, the big Netflix Orignal names like Lucifer as well returning for a new run. The May of 2021 is stacked for Netflix. So with no further adieu, let’s take a look at it.

May 1

Back to the Future Trilogy

Back to the Future is the sci-fi comedy franchise created by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. A pop culture phenomenon that impacts the entertainment world even today. It follows the adventures of Marty Mcfly as he travels back and forth in time with the help of an eccentric scientist’s time machine. In order to save the inevitable end of his fate.

Back To The Future Trilogy Comes To Netflix

The first film in the trilogy sees Marty McFly going back in time to make his parents fall in love. So that he can return back to his time and save his existence. The second film in the trilogy sees Marty going back in time to pose as Dr. Emmett’s son and help him to prevent his imprisonment. The final film sees Marty going back to the times of Wild Wild West to bring back Dr. Emmett, who has decided to stay there after falling in love.

Barney and Friends: Seasons 13-14

The long-running children series starring the kids’ favorite purple dinosaur, Barney returning. The show sees kids joining Barney as he teaches them a number of things in quite a fun way. Let it be with singing, dancing or some sports activity. Learning has never been more fun. Thus, Netflix brings in the thirteenth as well as the fourteenth season on its OTT space.

JT LeRoy

Justin Kelly directed the 2018 biographical dram JT LeRoy follows the story of Savannah Knoop. A woman who spent six years as celebrated author JT LeRoy. A made-up person derived from her sister-in-law. The movie takes cues from the memoir Girl Boy Girl: How I Became JT Leroy by Savannah Knoop. It stars Kristen Stewart taking the lead in the role of Savannah Knoop. She is joined by Laura Dern, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Diane Kruger, James Jagger, Dave Brown, Jim Sturgess, and Courtney Love.

The Land Before Time

Universal Pictures brings in the animated film The Land Before Time, directed by  Don Bluth, telling stories of a bunch of cute dinosaurs. It follows the story of an orphaned dinosaur named Littlefoot (Apatosaurus) who finds himself alone. Only until he meets Cera (Triceratops), Ducky (Saurolophus), Petrie (Pteranodon), and Spike (Stegosaurus). Throughout the film, they embark on a number of challenges, from raising a Tyrannosaurus to meeting aliens overcoming the challenges together.

The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure

A sequel to the Universal Pictures animated film of the same name. The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure is directed by Roy Allen Smith. It continues the story of Littlefoot and his friends as they discover an egg outside their territory. Upon finding out its Tyrannosaurus, the friends decided to raise it secretly away from everyone.

The Lovely Bones

Peter Jackson’s 2000 Supernatural thriller The Lovely Bones follows the story of a 14-year-old girl named Susie. After being murdered, her soul believes she has unfinished business and returns to the earth. In turn to watch over her family as well as reveal the murderer to them. The Lovely Bones is produced by Paramount Pictures and stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Michael Imperioli, and Saoirse Ronan in the lead roles.

Notting Hill

Roger Michell’s highly acclaimed romantic comedy, Notting Hill, stars Julia Roberts, Hugh Grant, Rhys Ifans, Emma Chambers, Tim McInnerny, Gina McKee, and Hugh Bonneville in the lead roles. It follows the story of a British bookseller who bumps into Anna, an American high-profile celebrity. Upon meeting and getting to know each other, they fall in love, but the relationship doesn’t go that easy. The difference in social statuses causes their relation to stumble and go through ups and downs.

The Pelican Brief

The 1993 legal thriller directed by Alan J. Pakula follows the story of a law student named Darby Shaw. The killings of two Supreme Court Judges by a man named Kamel are proved by her through a theory. Upon realizing this, she finds herself in danger, chased by thugs and murderers. The Pelican Brief stars Julia Roberts taking on the role of Darby Shaw. She is joined by the likes of Denzel Washington as Washington Herald reporter Gray Grantham.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

The fourth installment into the Resident Evil franchise. Resident Evil: Afterlife takes the cues from the video game of the same name. It also marks the return of the director Paul W. S. Anderson after directing the first film in the franchise. The film follows Alice leading her group to a safe place in Alaska. But the group is put into battle for life after realizing that the place is a trap to lure people to get infected by T-virus. Resident Evil: Afterlife stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts, Spencer Locke, Boris Kodjoe, and Wentworth Miller.

Resident Evil: Extinction

The third installment into the Resident Evil franchise before the events of Afterlife. Directed by Russell Mulcahy, the movie follows Alice and her group battling the evil Umbrella Corp throughout the Mojave desert. In the hope of finding the safe haven which is intended to be across in Alaska. Resident Evil: Extinction takes cues from the story from the video game of the same name. It stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Oded Fehr, Iain Glen, Ashanti, and  Mike Epps.


Scarface Comes To Netflix In May 2021

The 1983 Al Pacino classic directed by Brian De Palma, Scarface follows the story of Tony Montana building a drug empire in Miami with the help of his close friend Manny. But as his empire grows and he becomes the drug lord. In turn, his enemies grow as well as his ego and pride which step by step starts destroying Montana on the very thing he is built upon.


The 1995 military sci-fi film directed by Roland Emmerich, Stargate, follows the story of Colonel Jack O’Neill. A retired commander is brought out of his retirement for a secret mission to Planet Abydos discovered through an interstellar teleportation device from Egypt. The planet leads the commander to people who look like ancient Egyptians and worship the god Ra.

The Sweetest Thing

Alexandre Rockwell’s 2020 teen family drama The Sweetest Thing follows the story of two siblings. When living in a stressful and struggling life with an alcoholic father and negligent mother becomes overwhelming. The brothers decide to forget life and run away from home, hoping to find a better life elsewhere. The Sweetest Things stars Lana Rockwell, Nina Rockwell, and Jabari Watkins in the lead roles.

The Whole Nine Yards

Jonathan Lynn’s crime comedy-drama from 2000, The Whole Nine Yards, follows the story of Nicholas Oseransky. A regular dentist in Canada finds himself in trouble when a new neighbor Jimmy Tudeski moves in. Even though the trouble doesn’t brew in, only until Nicholas realizes Jimmy is indeed a contract killer on the hunt.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Kevin Smith’s 2008 sex comedy Zack and Miri Make a Porno or simply Zack and Miri stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks in the lead roles. It follows best friends Zack and Miri. When the besties find themselves in a financial crisis, they move on to make the difficult decision of making an adult film in order to earn some bucks for a living.

Since then, Columbus, an introverted college kid is trying to make his way to Ohio. In the hope of reuniting with his parents and find some haven. On his way, he meets very aggressive Tallahassee and sisters Wichita and Little Rock. Thus, surviving the apocalypse together and finding family in each other.

Hoarders: Season 11

Originally A&E’s reality shows. Hoarders follow two people about to lose everything in each episode. It showcases how people are not ready to part with even the tiniest possessions resulting in their place becoming a junk of garbage. This, in turn, also calling in for different diseases and a need for professional help to clean up before acts such as eviction, kids being taken away, or even jail time for the sufferer takes place.

Dead Man Down follows the story of two different individuals Victor and Beatrice. Completely strangers at first but upon bumping into each other in New York and realizing they have one common enemy. Their stars align, and they join forces together with one common goal now.

Girl From Nowhere: Season 2

A fully-fledged second season to Netflix Original Thai-language mystery drama. Girl From Nowhere follows the story of a girl named Nano. A quite mysterious one away from everyone as she is bound to know everyone’s secrets. She has transferred to a number of schools. The newest institution she has joined leads her to reveal a number of lies and misdeeds of students whenever they try to cross with her until a boy gets linked with Nano resulting in her taking the revelations far ahead.

The second season of Girl From Nowhere has teased a new boyfriend of Nano, new teachers, and new friends as well. There is more blood, violence, and gore. Furthermore, Nano isn’t alone coming up with revelations as her boyfriend will be teaming up with her.

Jupiter’s Legacy

Steven S. DeKnight’s brand new superhero show for Netflix arrives. DeKnight takes cues from the comic book series by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely. Jupiter’s Legacy tells the story of the world’s first superhero starting in 1930, who has grown old by time. Now in the present, it’s time for them to pass the torch to a younger generation of superheroes.


The 2003 biographical drama directed by Patty Jenkins, Monster, is based on the serial killer Aileen Wuornos. She was a prostitute known for seven of her male clients between 1989 and 1990 before being executed in 2002. The film follows Aileen moving to Florida and falling in love with Selby Wall, But as the prostitution carries on, there comes a time when a man named John attempts to brutalize her. This, in turn, leads Aileen to take bold steps and kill him and give up prostitution. When legal means don’t help her, Aileen continues the ways and eventually becomes a serial killer.

Money and its various forms from credit cards, casinos, scams, and loans.

The Upshaws

A brand new Netflix Orignal sitcom joining the likes of Country Comfort this year. The Upshaws follows the story of a working-class black family. Their day-to-day struggles and challenges trying to fit into Indiana Strives for a better home. Thus, trying to mark a success on their names.


Netflix Original Film Oxygen Comes To OTT In May of 2021

Alexandre Aja directed Netflix Orignal film Oxygen is a sci-fi thriller starring Mélanie Laurent, Mathieu Amalric and Malik Zidi. According to the official premise, the movie follows the story of a young woman who wakes up trapped in a medical cryo unit. With no memory of her past on who she is and where she came from, and how she landed in the unit. Plus, with no one around, she battles figuring a way out of the unit as she runs out of Oxygen by the time.

Dance of the Forty One

Another Netflix Orignal film, Dance of the Forty One, is a David Pablos directorial, which is a Mexican political romantic drama. It premiered at the 2020 Morelia Film Festival. The movie is based on a real-life story of an early 20th-century scandal from Mexican society. According to the official premise of the film, it sees a gay congressman marrying the Mexican president’s daughter. Things go upside down when he is seen dancing around with a young man at a secret club. Thus, breaking out a big scandal.

Belmont picks up his weapons to go head-on with Dracula himself, who runs this new world aided by magician Sypha Belnades and Dracula’s dhampir son Alucard.

Layer Cake

2004 Matthew Vaughn, Layer Cake is a British Crime drama starring Daniel Craig in the lead. The movie follows the story of a London-based drug dealer who wishes to quit the business and move on with life. But the world has something else for him when he is trapped with a job to rescue the daughter of a trade magnate. Plus, also retrieve two million pounds worth of ecstasy pills.

The Netflix Orignal animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots returns with a second season. The series showcases a new short story, every episode unique and with a  tone of its own. Plus generalized differently. The stories can be sci-fi, romantic, drama, horror, and crime as well. Each story varies and comes on its own. Some stories are original, while some are selected from the already existing popular short films giving them life in an animated form.

A new season for Netflix Orginal horror docu-series Haunted.  The series follows real people, friends, and family coming down to tell their horror experiences and stories. The show talks with them and reenacts events they describe to telling stories from around the world recreated through their past.

2020 Mauritian animated film Brent Dawes sees the characters of the television series Jungle Beat taking a new turn. The story of the film follows the animals of a jungle waking up to a new discovery. They figure out that they can speak much like the humans and communicate with each other. Getting in-depth of the discovery makes them realize that there are aliens in the jungle who are the reason behind this phenomenon.

The fourth and final installment of the Spy Kids franchise is the Spy Kids: All the Time in the World. The film follows the story of Marissa and her family, accompanied by twin stepchildren who don’t like her much. Only until they realize she is an ex-agent and is called back to work to stop the evil Timekeeper. In no time, Marissa agrees to take help from them, forming a new team altogether.

Another Netflix original docu-series, High on the Hog, follows Chef and writer Stephen Satterfield who believes Black Food is American food. He dives deep into his research tracing the origins of American food from Africa to Texas. A feel good-concept for a food docu-series taking a look at issues of racism, class disparity, and labor.

Baggio: The Divine Ponytail

A Netflix Original docu-series following the 22-year career of soccer star Roberto Baggio. Right from his difficult days during his debut to winning the  FIFA Player of the Century polls and joining the FIFA World Cup Dream Team. The docu-series sees the transition of Baggio into a full-fledged football star.

Blue Miracle

Blue Miracle is a biographical drama that oversees the story of Casa Hogar. In order to save themselves from Orphanage, the Mexican boys home join hands with a washed-up boat captain in the hope of winning the world’s biggest fishing tournament. Thus winning enough amount to save their home. Blue Miracle stars Jimmy Gonzales, Dennis Quaid, and Anthony Gonzalez in the lead roles.


2012 Megan Griffiths directorial Eden follows the story of the titular character who is a free-spirited high school girl. Life is fun until she finds herself trapped in a sex-trafficking racket which she can’t escape anymore. Coming in the circle with fate, she decides to challenge the circumstances in order to stay alive and set herself free.

There are a lot of questions to answer as the final half of season five is teased about being the beautiful family story for not only the titular character but also the supporting ones, including Detective Chloe Decker, Amenadiel, Mazikeen, Dr. Linda, and many more.

The Kominsky Method: Season 3

A fully-fledged third season for the Netflix Orignal The Kominsky Method arrives. The show follows the story of acting coach Sandy Kominsky far from his glorious acting days.  Thus witnessing his transition in the city of Los Angeles, which is known for its youth and beauty. Created by Chuck Lorre, the show stars Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin, Sarah Baker, Nancy Travis, and Kathleen Turner in lead roles.

Dog Gone Trouble

Dog Gone Trouble or simple Trouble is a computer-animated comedy by Kevin Johnson. It follows the story of a dog named Trouble. In order to break free from his owner’s greedy children, Trouble needs to step out of his comfort zone and experience what living in the real world means.

It showcases a story that sees love being twisted and, in turn, becoming a manipulation and murder altogether. Resulting in the ruckus.  Dirty John: The Betty Broderick Story stars Amanda Peet as Betty Broderick, Christian Slater as Dan Broderick, and Rachel Keller as Linda Kolkena in the lead roles.
