NCIS Hawaii Season 1 Episode 12 Recap
Episode 12 of NCIS Hawaii Season 1 titled “Spies, Part 1” dropped on 23rd January 2022 as a special episode. The episode opened up with a Navy officer Lieutenant Commander Joseph Cheng suddenly having a seizure and falling on the ground in front of his coworkers and dying. Later on, Kai took the statement of Cheng’s colleague and discussed everything with Lucy and Jesse as they arrived. He told them Cheng was working on a secret project that could be a possible reason that someone targeted him as he died from exposure to some toxic substance
Meanwhile, Jane learned that Cheng was poisoned 8-10 hours prior to his death using Thallium which hasn’t been used in the country for years. Moreover, after discussing the case with her team, Jane came up with the possibility of this being espionage. Whereas, Ernie used Cheng’s phone to find out about the person still texting Cheng for a meetup.
Surprisingly, the man turned out to be an agent named Scola working for New Zealand Security Intelligence Service. He told them that his source in China was killed, probably by Chinese intelligence for not cooperating to do their dirty work. It turns out his source was the cousin of Cheng as well. While Jane went to see her friend Maggie after seeing her meeting Cheng in a security camera footage. Although, Maggie told her that Cheng had come to her for help as he knew she was in Intelligence. After some more digging, Jane and Scola went to see an old Chinese operative serving jail time to find out about the Chinese operatives currently present in the country and what is their plan. She told them about the operation Dark Moon in which the MSS threatens Chinese nationals in different countries to do their dirty work. Whereas, Ernie located a graduate student from China who was the prime suspect of poisoning Cheng.
Well, it turned out correct as the MSS agents picked him up from school and escaped from Jesse and Lucy. Later on, Jane and Kai found the boy dead. However, they also found Maggie’s photo at the place which got them worried and they rushed to her house. But Maggie had already been abducted. Although, with no new leads, they once again went to the old MSS agent who identified the man running the Chinese operation. Eventually, the team got a location and they raided the place and saved Maggie from the MSS agents.
However, things got more interesting when Scola felt that this all had ended way too easily. Eventually, he and Jane discovered that the man running the operation was not the famous MSS agent named Bao that they were looking for. Moreover, Ernie’s research took them to the possibility that Maggie was working with the MSS.
