Good news for my ‘Drewds’ out there! Our favorite sleuth will be coming back for a fourth season. The mysteries just keep coming in Horseshoe Bay, and we could not be happier. Nancy Drew is an American mystery drama TV series, which premiered on October 9th, 2019, on The CW. The popular TV series is based on the equally popular series of mystery novels of the same name. The series follows and is narrated by not-so-amateur sleuth Nancy Drew, who, with the help of her “Drew Crew,” solves mysteries around her hometown of Horseshoe Bay. Nancy and her friends come across many mysteries, both of the natural and supernatural varieties.
The series was adapted by Noga Landau, Josh Schwartz, and Stephanie Savage for The CW. The show is the third version of a series based on characters from popular novels. The series has also been successful enough to spawn a spin-off called Tom Swift.
Cast
The show stars Kennedy McMann in the titular character of Nancy Drew, along with Alex Saxon, Leah Lewis, Maddison Jaizani, and Tunji Kasim. They play Ace, Georgia “George” Li-Yun Fan, Bess Turani Marvin, and Ned “Nick” Nickerson. Scott Wolf and Riley Smith also play important characters on the show as Carson Drew and Ryan Hudson, Nancy’s adoptive and biological fathers, respectively.

Plot
As the name suggests, Nancy Drew’s plot revolves around an 18-year-old sleuth named Nancy Drew, who gets entangled in the investigation of Horseshoe Bay’s socialite, Tiffany Hudson’s, murder. After the loss of her mother, Nancy puts off applying to Columbia and gets involved in the investigation. Nancy reluctantly allies with the employees of the restaurant she works at and her boyfriend at the time to clear their names of suspicion. The allies, or what later comes to be known as the “Drew Crew”, consists of prickly manager George Fan, worldly and polished waitress Bess Marvin, laidback and everyone’s favorite dishwasher Ace, and mechanic Ned “Nick” Nickerson, who Nancy initially has a no strings attached fling with and later develops feelings for. However, fans of the show know that Nancy and Nick do not last, and George and Nick are a far better pairing. And do not even get me started on probably everyone’s favorite ship and hopefully endgame, Nancy and Ace or ‘Nace’.
During their investigation, Nancy unearths a connection between Tiffany’s homicide to the decade-long cold case turned urban legend of Lucy Sable. Nancy is also determined to unveil all her friend’s secrets in order to trust them. However, they are all equally determined to keep their secrets. A lot happens over the three seasons of the show till now. We find out that Nick did time for accidentally killing someone to protect a friend of his. Bess turns out to be a rich kleptomaniac when we find out that she is actually a Marvin, how’s that for irony? George finds her father and Ace finds out he has a half-brother. One of the biggest reveals of the show is when we, along with Nancy, find out that she is actually adopted and her real parents are Ryan and none other than Lucy Sable herself. Not to mention the number of supernatural entities they encounter during their investigations. The last three seasons have been a rollercoaster ride in the best way possible.
Nancy Drew Season 3 Recap
Season 3 of Nancy Drew begins with Nancy and the “Drew Crew” having a whole new mystery on their hands when they discover the body of a mysterious young man on the Hudson carnival grounds on the evening of Horseshoe Bay’s annual Harvest Carnival. The intriguing part about this case was that the man was missing his heart, which seemed to have been ripped out of his chest after being frozen. Thus, dubbing this new killer as “the frozen hearts killer”. The killer also has an enigmatic connection to none other than Nancy’s newest foil, Temperance Hudson, who also happens to be Nancy’s resurrected ancestor. A host of confounding clues surrounding the new menace terrorizing the town is what draws the Drew Crew into the case. Later, Temperance makes a startling offer at the police station where Nancy now works as the Community Liaison. Also, sparks fly between Nancy and her counterpart in law enforcement, Agent Park, during the investigation of the Frozen Hearts murders.
Bess tries to protect Ace
Meanwhile, Bess tries to protect Ace from a string of bad luck that was not as coincidental as he thought. The series of events happen when he tries to help his girlfriend, Amanda’s, dad, who happens to have a knack for seeking out trouble. This eventually leads to Amanda and Ace’s breakup, no offense to Amanda, but it was about time. A mishap also tests Nick’s and George’s relationship, and Carson and Ryan have conflicting opinions on how Nancy should be parented. The Drew Crew then find themselves unraveling ghostly clues about a homicide from the 1950s when they follow a surprising lead from a podcaster at an annual convention for amateur sleuths. This leads to the apparent capture of the Frozen Hearts Killer. However, later Nancy begins to question whether the case of the Frozen Heart Murders has truly been solved. Meanwhile, the Drew Crew also races to protect everyone from the supernatural threat that is causing people to sleepwalk into life-threatening situations.
George Meets Her Father
George is then shaken by an unwelcome friend request from her father, and Nancy’s unspoken feelings for Ace resurface in the form of a dream she has in which he loses his heart, literally, as the victim of the Frozen Hearts Killer. This is very relevant because not only is it foreshadowing what is next to come, but it is also a reference to Temperance’s prediction in which she says one of them will lose their heart. After a setback in the case, Nancy asks Temperance for help by using magic to see the memories of the murder suspect. While doing this, they learn that the original Frozen Hearts Killer was a supernatural creature which is back in town. Meanwhile, George has a long-overdue confrontation with her dad, and the Bobbsey entanglement creates a world of trouble for Ace. Next, while following a lead on a relic that could separate George’s soul from Odette’s so that her lifespan would not be shortened anymore, the friends go on a hunt for the underground prison which held the killer.
Bess Suffers a Devastating Loss
They are eventually successful in separating George and Odette’s souls, but it leaves Bess with a devastating loss. Meanwhile, Carson and Ryan are affected by a mystical substance that makes them act like teenagers and leaves Nancy and Ace to parent them. Later, when an attempt to trap a killer ends up unintentionally unleashing a deadly supernatural entity that feeds on people’s sorrows, Nancy, Bess, Agent Park, and Temperance have to join forces. George also meets the friend Nick who went to jail to protect, and Ace and Ryan discover a haunting at the Historical Society, where Ryan hints at Ace that he might have feelings for Nancy. Later, Nancy and Agent Park grow closer as they investigate the origins of the Frozen Hearts Killer, which irks Ace as unexpected obstacles prevent him from working with them. Meanwhile, Nick, George, and Bess unravel the truth behind a college student’s mysterious death.
Ace is stuck in a parallel space
Later on, Ace gets stuck in a parallel space with Hannah, and we finally learn the mystery behind the “phantom knock”, just when he is finally about to confess his feelings to Nancy. He decides to get out of there by somehow getting through to Nancy, which he is eventually able to do, despite Hannah’s snide comments about how he’s being in love with her is not going to help them. All this happens while Bess puts everyone under a truth spell which leads George and Nick to break up and Nancy and Agent Park to hook up. Later, Nick finds who the next victim of the killer will be, and the friends deal with tensions of their own in the aftermath of recent romantic turns, like Ace confessing his feelings for Nancy to her. When the solution to their mystery is almost in their grasp, the revelation that Ace will be the killer’s next victim puts the Drew Crew in the crosshairs.
Season Finale
In the season finale, a star-crossed choice changes everything for Nancy forever, as lives and hearts, especially Ace’s, are in supernatural jeopardy. While trying to save Ace, Nancy goes to Temperance for help, who tells her that he is Nancy’s blind spot and will eventually cause her to fail. Eventually, we are led to believe that Nancy can defeat Temperance, with Ryan being collateral damage sadly. However, a few months later, Nancy begins to move on as she and Ace get together, and they are happier than ever. But, later on, Ace dies, and we learn that it was all a vision Temperance made Nancy see just as she was about to defeat her and she tells Nancy that if she defeats her, she will curse Ace so that if they ever act on their feelings for one another, he will die. However, if she lets her go through with her plan, she will spare Nancy and Ace, and they can be happy together. Even though Nancy does consider letting Temperance go through with her plan so she can be with Ace, she eventually goes back and saves everybody, even Ryan.
At the end of season three, Bess is in charge of the historical society, George and Nick have gone their separate ways doing their things, and Nancy is forced to break Ace’s heart without him knowing why. Thus, all of Temperance’s predictions came true, including Ace losing his heart, metaphorically of course.
Nancy Drew Season 4 Release Date
Fortunately for all my Drewds out there, Nancy Drew has been renewed for Season 4. The series only recently completed airing its third season on The CW and is now one of seven shows to have received early renewal. However, there is no official release date yet as the renewal was only announced yesterday. With that said, judging from past season releases, we can probably expect the fourth season of Nancy Drew to release by the end of this year or the beginning of next. We just cannot wait.
What to expect from Nancy Drew Season 4?
Considering where we left off with season 3, one thing we can surely expect is a brand new exciting mystery. At the very end of the finale, Nancy receives an anonymous tip which leads her to the cemetery to find a bunch of dug-up graves. It will be exciting to find out what all this means and what mystery the Drew Crew uncovers next. As per the individual characters, Bess is now the Historical Society’s new keeper, and according to Temperance, she will wreak havoc on the town. Nick is working to repair the town’s water damage, and George has decided to be a lawyer as the two separate to find their ways. Ace quit his job at the claw and took a job at the morgue and Nancy is the new owner of Nancy Drew Investigations and is prepared to live out the rest of her life without her soulmate, Ace. We cannot wait for all the mystery and drama of the next season, but most of all, we cannot wait to see how the Nace situation is resolved.
