I feel that Gyaru characters have been deeply underestimated and mostly taken in only as side characters or as a comic relief, which is quite frustrating. However, manga series like Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro has brought these characters to a new light, thereby popularizing the idea of Gyaru characters as main characters. My personal affinity towards liking these characters might have been a factor in my immense obsession with My Dress-up Darling, a manga series that was released in 2018. The manga is quite popular among Japanese readers for its fun concept and fluffy slow-mo romance between the two main characters. Fortunately, the manga has been confirmed for an anime adaptation and recently, the My Dress-up Darling release date was announced. Considering how cute this story is, we are definitely looking forward to seeing how the anime turns out.
While Gyaru characters might be a huge reason, what makes Dress-up Darling an even more exciting upcoming anime is its theme. The story might be a romantic comedy but its theme majorly revolves around cosplaying. The idea of cosplaying and its popularity has skyrocketed over time. Watching an anime dedicated to it feels like an absolute pleasure. My Dress-up Darling has a sweet story about a quiet guy and energetic girl; two polar opposites. They find their lives entangled with each other with a common interest in cosplaying. I can bet that’s enough reason for anyone interested in rom-com to be hyped up about this upcoming series.
Since the announcement of the anime, the My Dress-up Darling release date has been announced along with a new PV and a majority cast reveal. Here are all the details about the anime and what to expect from it.

The main characters of My Dress-up Darling are Wakana Gojo and Marin Kitagawa. Wakana is in his first year of high school and has a gloomy personality. He aspires to become a hina doll craftsman. On the other hand, we have Marin Kitagawa. She is popular and enigmatic, much unlike Wakana. When she sees Wakana sewing clothes, she’s taken aback by his talent. Her interest in him piques and she asks him to make him a costume of her favorite character from a video game. As Wakana deals with his newfound challenges of making human-sized clothing and Marin moves towards her passion for cosplaying, the two characters come closer to create this amazing story.
The story brings forth an amazing collection of fuzzy interactions between the main characters that are definitely worth looking forward to.
