The fans of Monster Hunter were awaiting the “big news” that was related to the game. In the “Special Developer Update” livestream for the Monster Hunter: World game, it was revealed that the game is going to get an expansion, which is titled Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. It will be released in fall 2019. The new expansion will feature a new story that will begin after the events of the main game.
The expansion also boasts of new quest ranks, locales, moves, monsters and equipment. The size of the new expansion will be the size of previous “G” or “Ultimate” installments in the series. The people who already have purchased Monster Hunter: World will be able to purchase the new expansion. The details about the expansion is limited but, it was revealed that the staff will release more details about it in the spring.
A trial version of the game is available for free but, it will be available for a limited time. It will be available between December 11-17. In the free version, the players will be able to play quests up to three star level, transfer their save data to the full version and play online with the people who have the full version.
The game is also getting a collaboration with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game in spring 2019. Geralt will meet the members of the Research Commission in the New World. The collaboration will also have new quests. Every update for the Monster Hunter: World will also come out on PC. The staff will reveal the details about the PC release in the future.
Monster Hunter won the Best Role Playing Game at The Game Awards 2018. The game was also nominated for Game of the Year. However, it lost to God of War. Monster Hunter has also won the Best Cooperative Game award at the Golden Joystick Awards 2018.
Monster Hunter: World launched worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on January 26, and shipped 5 million copies worldwide (including digital sales) in its first three days to set a new franchise record.
