The first Made in Abyss film, Made in Abyss: Tabidachi no Yoake (Journey’s Dawn), revealed a new project from the franchise. The new work is titled, Gekijōban Made in Abyss: Fukaki Tamashii no Reimei (Made in Abyss the Movie: Dawn of the Deep Soul). The official website for the anime has also revealed a teaser for the project.
There was an event held in November 2017 in which it was revealed that a sequel project was in works. Made in Abyss: Tabidachi no Yoake recently opened in Japan. The second movie, Made in Abyss: Hōrō Suru Tasogare (Wandering Twilight), will begin in Japan on January 18. Sentai Filmworks will screen the films in the United States.
The anime is based on Akihito Tsukushi’s manga. The anime premiered in July 2017, and it had a total of 13 episodes. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series, and it was released on Blu-ray disc on October 23.
In the story, there is a massive pit and cave system. This is called “Abyss,” and it is the only place in the world that has been left unexplored. Inside this abyss, many strange creatures reside. It also has some precious relics which the humans are unable to create.
People venture into the Abyss to learn about the place. These people are known as “Cave Raiders.” The story follows a little girl named Rico. She lives in the town of Ōsu on the edge of the Abyss. Osu dreams of becoming a Cave Raider like her mother. While exploring the Abyss, Osu finds a robot who resembles a human boy.
