A new entry has been made into the world of Kpop. For the first time, an LGBTQ boyband has made its debut. Lionesses, the group’s official name, is already stirring up the Kpop world with their music. In this article, you will get to know the members of the group, their debut single song, and more information regarding the first LGBTQ Kpop boyband Lionesses.
The South Korean boyband has already made history by taking this initiative, as this will help so many other people to pursue what they want. However, they can’t because society has put labels on them. This is just not it, as the group made their debut on 2nd November 2021 with their single Show Me Your Pride. Till now, this is the only song they have released. The reactions received are extremely positive as people are excited to witness something new, meaningful, and never seen before. This comes as a piece of great news, especially at a time where there are so many movements happening regarding the LGBTQ community. People are breaking centuries of stereotyped social norms and coming out as who they are, and at such a time, this news coming out is as great as it can be.
There is still a lot of stigmas when it comes to the LGBTQ community. Lionesses members are being praised not only because they are the first LGBTQ boyband in the history of kpop but also due to the meaningful lyrics of the song and their outstanding vocals.

Kpop boyband Lionesses consists of four members, namely Foxman, Damjun, Lee Marlang, and Kanghan. Till now, the group hasn’t revealed much about themselves. However, it is only known that Damjun and Foxman were formerly part of Kpop management companies.
When asked about their band’s name Damjun said that people have this perception that the Lions are the kings of the jungle. However, it is the Lioness who ultimately rules. Even if the Lion is the King of the jungle, the Lioness is the one in charge of the hunting part.
Foxman, on the other hand, made a point where he said that though South Korean society has evolved a lot, it is still a bit conservative. There are still a lot of changes that need to be done, and that will be for good. He hopes that their music brings hope to people’s lives and helps to make their life better. The four members met at common LGBTQ places, where all of them expressed their interest in making music that will connect with people from this community.
Released on 2nd November 2021, Show Me Your Pride has gathered rave reviews from the audience as they can relate to this song on many levels. This is not only for the LGBTQ community but also directed towards society, which sometimes wants to conceal a person’s individuality in a box. Till now, the song has gained 78k views upon its release for two weeks. That’s a good start though the song definitely deserves way more.
The lyrics are so meaningful, and the soulful vocals deserve a special mention. Lyrics like Love is Love, and We burn up the era of discrimination, we shine and are emancipated like “jewels”. Each and every member’s vocals provide so much to the song, and that just shows.
Show Me Your Pride places the message that there are many who will say a lot of things. However, one should be proud of themselves for who they are cause they all shine as they are “jewels”.
From the starting of the song till the end, every member wears a mask. However, when the song ends, Damjun removes his mask, indicating that it’s time to come out as who they are with an expression that says, ” I am proud of who I am”.
Another aspect that’s quite noticeable in the video is the different looks of each member. It is not unknown that South Korea has extremely high beauty standards, and be it kpop idols or actors, most of them adhere to those standards. However, here it is visible that it is not the case—clearly, one more step towards a change.
