A24’s Nordic Lamb movie 2021 ending explained is one of those films that requires close attention. Firstly, unlike other horror genres, Nordic horror films are very cerebral —and scary in their own kinds of ways. This film, in particular features a mutant innocent-looking sheep. Valdimar Jóhansson’s “Lamb” is an Icelandic feature-length film starring in the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. That tells the story of a couple that gets terrorized by a mutant sheep on their farm. With A24 as a studio backing this film, and their track record of productions of the likes of Hereditary by Ari Aster, the film proves to be a cerebral horror masterpiece.
Lamb tells us the story of Ingvar and Maria. This couple lives a fairly stable life on a sheep farm in some remote place in Iceland. A place so far away and so remote that it seems like either a good place to live. Or a horrific place to be tortured. Because no one could hear you scream. While filmmaker Jóhannson claims that his creation is far from a horror movie, everyone labels it as such. And in this article, we will tell you all about it.
Lamb Movie 2021 Ending Explained with Spoilers
Before we explain the ending, we got to start by telling you the plot. As we told you earlier, Maria (Noomi Rapace) and Ingvar (Snær Guðnason) live in this rural area of Iceland, raising their sheep on a farm. Moreover, the two seem to get along, sometimes they seem distant and cold. But as soon as a new lamb comes along. Everything and we mean everything, changes for those two. That baby lamb gets the royal treatment, Maria wraps it in a blanket and makes it sleep in a cozy cot right next to their bed. We never find out why they’re so drawn to the animal. And we never see the full animal, as it is always wrapped in a blanket.
Now here comes the ending, spoiler beware. Turns out that one of the lambs birthed a half lamb, half-human baby. So, the head is all lamb, and the rest of the body is a baby. That’s why the lamb is always covered up with a blanket, or the focus of the camera always puts the lamb’s head and not the rest of the body. Nor do we see the reason in the first part of the movie as to why in the world are these folks so drawn to a lamb that gets that royal treatment.

What other films like Lamb could I watch?
If you like Nordic cerebral tone films, we can recommend Midsommar, a powerful movie by Ari Aster. It’s available on Netflix, and it tells the story of a Pagan death cult. The slow-burn two and a half hours movie studies one girl’s emotional journey of self-realization and emancipation from an abusive relationship. In a similar tone to Aster’s first feature-length film, “Hereditary”, this movie is both dramatic and horror in its tonality. But unlike her first film, the ending is much more happy.
Midsommar is a movie from 2019, and it stars Florence Pugh, William Jackson Harper, Vilhem Blomgren, and Jack Reynor. The film’s photography took place in Sweden. And its soundtrack is awesome. Like most Nordic films, it pays close attention to detail, the camera placement and edition are impeccable, and you will enjoy a different perspective to cinema if you’re accustomed to American horror movies. All in all, Midsommar and Lamb are Nordic films which capture a different tonality to movie genres which enrich our experience when it comes to entertainment.
