Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody Episode 3: Release Date & Preview

Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody
Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody

Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody is a Netflix Documentary series that has released 2 episodes so far. This show is hosted by one of South Korea’s most popular celebrity chefs – Baek Jong Won. If you are a BTS ARMY, it is almost guaranteed you know this man. That’s because he has appeared in several Run BTS Episodes and taught the boys a thing or two about cooking. The main concept of Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody is to teach the world everything that they need to know about the legendary ‘naengmyeon’. The word may sound very foreign to you if you are not a K-Culture enthusiast. However, if you are someone who follows K-Pop and K-Dramas closely, you may have at least heard the word. However, the English translation is probably all too familiar for you. ‘Naengmyeon’ refers to ‘cold noodles’ in the Korean peninsula.

This dish marks the history of the peninsula and forms a very important part of its mainstream, as well as traditional, culture. While cold beverages are certainly something that the world is quite familiar with, most people prefer that solid food to be warm. However, the ‘naengmyeon’ is a rare exception to South Korea’s food palette. And, luckily for you, Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody talks all, and only, about it. Read on to find out everything you need to know about Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody Episode 3!

Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody Episode 3 Release Date

We hate to come being the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately, no official announcements have been made about the Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody Episode 3 Release Date. In fact, we are not sure whether there will, if at all, be a third episode in this docu-series. This is mainly for two reasons. The first one is that there are actually only two major versions of this dish. And both of them have already been covered in the first two episodes. The second is that if a third episode were to release, it would have been released on September 3, 2021. But since it did not, it is safe to assume that the docuseries has come to an end. However, if there are any updates regarding another episode, we’ll update you!

Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody Episode 1: Recap

The two episodes of Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody are each 48 minutes long. Episode 1 tells us largely about the Pyeongyang-style naengmyeon. It describes this version of the noodle as the ‘epitome of less is more’. The first episode starts with a temple in the Gangwon-do province of South Korea. The show, since it is a documentary, focuses largely on narrations by common people. The show moves to the restaurant in Seoul, which was voted by displaced people as the one that served naengmyeon that tasted the most as they got it back home in Pyongyang, North Korea.

Along with Baek Jong Won, several seasoned food critics and restaurant owners speak about the essence of these noodles. They say that the beauty and taste of these noodles lie in their lack of flavor. Several experts speak about making the noodles from scratch and every instruction that needs to be followed. The first episode ends with a group of elderly gentlemen having the Pyongyang naengmyeon and reminiscing their childhood in North Korea.

Korean Cold Noodle Rhapsody Episode 2: Recap

The second episode focuses largely on the Baengnyeongdo Naengmyeon. This type of cold noodles is found mainly in the Baengnyeondo island in Incheon, about 10 kilometers from North Korea. Here, unlike the Pyongyang Naengmyeon, which had a meat stock, the stock is made with sand eels. On this island, most people make these noodles at home. Even modern homes have noodle makers.

In this episode, Baek Jong Won also takes us to a restaurant in Seoul that sells naengmyeon since the times of the Korean War. This episode also speaks largely about the way these noodles were eaten during the Joseon period. The episode, after having traveled through the length and breadth of South Korea for the best naengmyeon noodles, finally comes to an end in Jeju Island. Here, Chef Baek Jong Won combines the best parts of all the naengmyeon he has eaten and makes his own version.
