Kingdom: Legendary War ( 컴백전쟁: 킹덤 ) is a South Korean reality TV show. The show is performance-based, where several K-pop participate. The participating groups are scored on various aspects of their performance. Kingdom is aired on Mnet every Thursday at 20:00 (KST). There are supposed to be 10 episodes and the first episode aired on April 1, 2021.

This show is said to be a sequel to Road to Kingdom (a Korean prequel). A show previously aired named “Queendom” had a similar concept, but the show was based on Girl Groups in K-pop. Very famous and well-known groups are a part of these shows.

The concept of “Kingdom: Legendary War.”

The show is a real performance show which includes various Idol Boy Groups in the Kpop industry. The lineup includes six prominent groups: BTOB, iKON, SF9, The Boyz, Stray Kids, and Ateez. In the prequel Road to Kingdom, The Boyz emerged as the winner, and this got them into the sequel show Kingdom: Legendary War. The objective and the vision are to determine which group is the best K-pop group. TVXQ’s Yunho and Changmin are the emceeing at the Mnet show.

As mentioned previously, Kingdom: Legendary War is a sequel to Road to Kingdom (a similar Korean Variety show with a similar concept). This show will have 4 rounds of performance battles within the Kpop groups, and the final episode will be aired live. The special feature of this show is live voting, which is to be aired. Unlike previous competitions, international fans can vote too.

However, there is a certain weightage of scores where voting by fans is only 25%.

30 experts are invited for expert panel scores. Road to Kingdom was telecasted from.  When it was aired, many controversies arose regarding if the judgment is fair and just. Some people called out Mnet on various social media platforms. This time, Mnet addressed this issue and said they would be as fair and as just as possible towards the groups participating in the show.

The concept of variety is gaining rapid popularity in Korean pop culture, and thus, more and more companies and TV production houses are trying to develop such concepts. The sets are high-budget extravagant sets, and this time, the judges will be accessing the performance by video and not face to face because of the current situation of COVID-19.

The first episode started with the Boyz entering the stage as the previous winners. The groups that followed are Stray Kids, ATEEZ, BTOB (the most experienced group with 10 years), SF9, and iKON. The Emcees of the show followed the groups. The show started with introducing the groups, their experience, and what each group expects from the competition. The participants and the Emcees get familiar with each other.  The scoring system was explained the scoring system.

BTOB was asked to select the first performing team, and they selected ATEEZ. There is a detailed analysis of the strengths and mistakes of each group. ATEEZ admitted to the pressure of being the youngest group.  After this, the groups performed one after the other. BTOB was the second group to perform, followed by Stray kids, the Boyz, and iKON. After the performances, the groups were asked to predict which team would win. iKON was the first one on the list. 365,573 fans were online and voted for the groups. The voting period, which was initially decided to be for one hour, has been extended to 4 days.

The video evaluation results were announced on a separate day. BTOB has filled up the 3rd position, SF9 is at the 4th position, and ATEEZ at the 5th.  The next positions will be announced in the next episode. The next episode will release on April 8. 2021.
