Jennie Lynn Finch was born on 3 September 1980 in La Mirada, California. She has two brothers Shane and Landon. From a young age, Jennie was interested in sports. She began playing softball at the age of five and pitching at age eight. Her father, Doug Finch, was her first pitching coach. Finch went to La Mirada High School. During school time, Jennie started playing basketball and volleyball along with softball. She was the captain of all three games and lettered four times in softball and twice each in basketball and volleyball.

Finch majored in communication from the University of California. She debuted on 5 February 1999, winning against the UIC Flames. During her junior and senior years, Jennie made First Team for the National Collegiate Athlete Association (NCAA). She participated in the Summer Olympic of Athens and Beijing Olympics and came back winning a gold and a silver medal. She also pitched for the Chicago Bandit by playing in the National Pro Fastpitch from 2005 to 2010.
