A few months prior, Corden was the target of intense online criticism after engaging in a public argument over perceived inappropriate behavior with the owner of a posh restaurant in New York.
After owner Keith McNally alleged that he had been “very nasty” to his staff on two different occasions regarding a meal that included an omelet, he was temporarily banned from Balthazar in Manhattan.
After Mr. McNally shared the incident on social media, Corden faced intense criticism and requests for his “ban” from other locations.
Later, in a Late Late Show episode, Corden discussed the issue and said it was “never my intention” to annoy the workers. However, he did admit to acting in an “ungracious” manner at the time.
Accusations from Andy Cohen
Speaking out against Corden, Andy Cohen accused the host of stealing his set. Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live presenter, David Cohen, expressed his position at a Table for Two with Bruce Brozzi podcast episode.
He noted that his show was the first to have a bar on set when talking about how WWHL “redefined what the late-night talk show is” on American television.
This is something that Corden also did when he took over Craig Ferguson’s The Late Late Show. “James Corden kind of wound up,” Cohen said like he was going to confront the celebrity. However, Bozzi said that Corden had “ripped off” the entire set as he concluded his statement.

Fans were quick to note that Corden’s joke was eerily reminiscent of one that Ricky Gervais had performed years before during a stand-up comedy.
After learning of the circumstances, Gervais retweeted a video that showed his original joke side by side with Corden’s monologue.
