It’s okay to Not Be Okay is a South Korean drama starring Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Ye Ji. If you are a K drama fan I’m sure you have already seen the drama, if not the entire drama then small bits of it here and there since the drama was all over the internet. Plus if you haven’t yet watched the drama you must else you’ll miss out on something really good. Need not to tell that it’s Okay To Not Be Okay is one of the best K-Dramas to date and was the most popular show of 2020 in the romantic genre on Netflix in South Korea. It also gained tremendous international attention because of its unique plot and story. The New York Times even named it’s okay to Not be Okay as one of the best international shows of 2020.
The drama aired on the original network that is tvN and Netflix and had 16 episodes of each episode to be approximately 1hr 15mins. It aired every Saturday and Sunday from 20th June 2020 to 9th August 2020. The genre of the show includes Psychological, comedy, romance, drama, and family. With the direction under Park Shin Woo and Jung Dong Yoon and screenwriting under Jo Young. The series is also widely known as Saikojiman Gwaenchanha, I’m a Psycho but it’s Okay and Psycho But it’s all alright.
Plot summary of It’s Okay to Not Be Okay
The story revolves around four main charters named Moon Gang Tae, Ko Moon Young, Moon Sang Tae, and Nam Joo Ri.
Moon Gang Tae is a community health worker at a psychiatric ward who is blessed with all the good looks and a great body. Above everything, he is also a good human being and knows how to sympathize with others easily. He has the ability to control and lead. He is not only patient but smart and emotional as well. Due to a troubled childhood, he had to flee here and there with his elder brother Moon Sang Tae, who is a little different from others. After their father passed away their mother looked after them until one day she was killed by a mysterious woman who was none other than Park Haeng Ja that is Ko Moon Young’s mother.
Logically Ko Moon young’s mother can to told be the antagonist of the drama. She is mentally ill who wants to control everyone around her according to her ways. She tormented her daughter making it hard for her to live life on her own terms. Hence, she grew up to be an antisocial personality disordered person who seemed extremely arrogant, selfish, and rude to others. The three main characters have a linked childhood together since a child Ko Moong Young saved Moon Gang Tae from drowning. After they are all grown-ups Moon Young turns out to be a popular writer of children’s literature. Fate reunites the three with suspense about Koo Moon Young’s mother throughout the drama.
The story maintains a thrill and makes the audience inquisitive to know more and more. The highlighting issues of psychological problems are dealt with well in the drama. Moon Gang Tae denies love and Ko Moon Young doesn’t know love yet they both fall in love with each other with steadily handling their elder brother Moon Sang Tae. Nam Joo Ri is a character who initially likes Moon Gang Tae and works as his colleague in the same hospital. Towards the end of the drama, all the suspense are revealed and we get to see a happy ending which is too satisfying for us a viewer. The brilliant acting of the whole cast can’t be described until you watch it once yourself. The amazing portrayal of the characters is amazing and makes us glued to our seats throughout.
The cast of It’s okay to not be okay
In the main role, we have Kim Soo Hyun as Moon Gang Tae, Seo Ye Ji as Ko Moong Young, Oh Jung Se as Moong Sang Tae, and Park Gyu Young as Nam Joo Ri. In the support role, we have Jang Young Nam as Park Haeng Ja who disguises herself as a head nurse at OK psychiatric hospital. She is the main antagonist of the story and all the revelations happen around her. Apart from the main lead, her acting was also on point.
