Is Kurama’s death canon in the “Boruto: Naruto Next Generation”? Masashi Kishimoto created the Naruto series, and it began airing in 2002 and ended after two anime series in 2017. In contrast, the manga was serialized from 1999 to 2014. It’s one of the most popular anime. Further, Boruto: Naruto Next Generation is the successor of this mind-blowing Shonen series. This new series revolves around Naruto’s son, Boruto Uzumaki. The manga series began serializing on 9 May 2016, and the anime began airing a year later in 2017. Both the manga and anime are still ongoing.
The Boruto series was initially written by Ukio Kodachi, who worked as Kishimoto’s assistant in the original series. Thus, many fans thought the Boruto series was non-canon as Kishimoto wasn’t the creator. However, the series is canon because Kishimoto was acting as an advisor for the series since the first day. But recently, he took the reigns of the series in his hand. He is the creator of Boruto since Volume 14. As we know, Kishimoto can take some tough calls in his manga to make it interesting. Therefore, he did something unbelievable, killing Kurama during the fight against Jigen. This event led to fans questioning is Kurama’s death canon in the “Boruto: Naruto Next Generation.”
Who is Kurama?
Sage of Six Path, Hagoromo Otsutsuki, who separated the Ten-Tails’ chakra into nine separate bodies. Kurama is one of those beasts and the strongest among them. Because of his insane prowess, many shinobi throughout history tried to control the beast and used it in war. Even Madara Uchiha put Kurama under his control by using his Sharingan and used the demonic fox to fight against the first Hokage, Hashirama Senju. However, Hashiama used his wood style to free Kurama from Madara’s control and later sealed the beast in his wife, Mito Uzumaki, who excels in sealing Jutsu.
Kurama stayed inside Mito until she grew old and was on the verge of death. Then Konohagakure brought a talented 12-year-old Uzumaki girl, Kushina, who becomes the next host for Kurama. However, the seal got weak while giving birth to Naruto. Obito Uchiha/Tobi used this opportunity to control Kurama and wreak havoc in Hidden Leaf Village. However, the fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, stopped the beast and planned to seal Kurama in his son. However, while sealing Kurama into Naruto, Minato and Kushina received mortal wounds from Kurama, and they died.
While inside Naruto Uzumaki, Kurama sought opportunities to take control of Naruto’s body. But Naruto discovers that Kurama developed a hatred for humanity because of their ill-treatment toward the beast. Thus, Naruto promises to get rid of that hatred, and he does succeed. During the Fourth Great Shinobi War, both become friends and work together to take down their enemies. But after the war, he had the chance to be free and roam the wilderness. But Nine-Tails grew attached to Naruto, and thus, he gets himself sealed inside Naruto again. The two have grown more closer since then. Further, Kurama still loves to tease Naruto. He watched the boy becoming Hokage and have a family now.
How did Kurama die?
In Boruto: Naruto Next Generation manga, Jigen or Isshiki Otsutsuki again attacked Boruto and Kawaki. Soon Boruto and Sasuke arrived to save them. However, resurrected Isshiki overwhelmed them all, knocking Sasuke down and blocking Naruto’s sensory power. But Naruto was willing to wager his own life to defeat Isshiki to protect his friends and sons. Seeing Naruto’s determination, Kurama suggests using a special mode, but this can lead to death. Naruto then enters the Bayron Mode. Then he starts dominating Isshiki. However, Kurama explains this move absorbs the life force from the user as well as the enemy. Further, it eventually leads to death, and so he should use each move carefully.
Naruto takes down Isshiki and then talks to Kurama inside his mind. Naruto is ready to die and tells Kurama he doesn’t have hatred for him even he killed his parents. But then Nine-Tails revealed that Naruto is not going to die; instead, he himself will die. Kurama explains he knew Naruto wouldn’t have used the move if he knew the actual wager. But Kurama also didn’t lie to him, and he just hid that the mode costs his life, not Naruto’s. In the final moments, Kurama warns Naruto to be more careful as he will no more have Kurama’s chakra or prowess. Further, the series is Kishimoto’s work, Kurama’s death is canon, and we will not see the Nine-Tails anymore.
